Steele Memorial Library will be open on Veterans Day, Friday, November 11th, from 10:00AM-6:00PM. All other branches will be closed.

Vote For Your LibraryThe Chemung County Library District budget vote will be held on Tuesday, November 8th. The proposed 2012 tax levy of $2,528,243 reflects a 1.9 percent increase in the annual library tax levy. The library vote is held in conjunction with the general election.  Anyone registered to vote in the general election in Chemung County is eligible to vote on the library budget and trustee candidates.

The Library District is experiencing a period of unprecedented opportunities. The most recent statistical report shows that 567,763 items were checked out last year, with an average of 27,000 patron visits each month. The collection includes 281,000 books, 15,074 videos, and 9,682 audio items. The district’s computers are used by over 225 people, on average, each day.

The district has continued with new digital initiatives including the use of social media, early literacy station computers, and downloadable eBooks and audiobooks for adults and children. 

The public is invited to a budget presentation on; Wednesday, November 2nd at Steele Memorial Library at 7:00PM; or Monday, November 7th at the Horseheads branch at 6:00PM. More details about the 2012 library budget are available on the library’s website.

Quilts AMongst the BooksStop by the Steele Memorial Library this month for Quilts Amongst the Books, presented by the Piecemaker Quilters of Elmira - Reception to be held on November 7th from 7:00PM-9:00PM.

Tonight, 11/01, 6:00PM @ Big Flats Library - Join us for popcorn and a movie with a big screen presentation of Disney's Cars 2 (Rated G). Fun for all ages.

Thursday, 11/03, 3:30PM @ Horseheads Library - Knifty Knitters - Keep your hands busy and your lap warm learning how to knit using a round loom. Yarn and loom provided. Families with children ages 9 and up. Only 15 slots available, registration required.

Sneeze, Big Bear, SneezeLocal writer Maureen Wright, author of Sneeze, Big Bear, Sneeze; Sleep, Big Bear, Sleep; and Sneezy the Snowman, will be doing a storytime and book signing this month at both West Elmira Library and Steele Memorial Library! She will be at West on Monday, 11/07 at 6:15PM and at Steele on Monday, 11/14 at 10:30AM.

Tuesday, 11/08, 6:00PM @ Big Flats Library - Join us for a readers theatre presentation of "The Fire Breathing Dragon Finally Uses Mouthwash".

Friday, 11/11, 1:00PM @ Steele Memorial Library - iPad & eLibrary (Offered By JobLink) - Learn what on-line library resources are available using an iPad!

Every Friday, from 1:30PM-3:30PM @ Van Etten Library - Be Creative @ Van Etten Library - Adult artists and crafters of all ability levels: bring your materials and projects to Van Etten Library.
