Technology Training at CCLD Libraries

Tech Training Lab

All classes are free and registration is required. To register for Steele classes call 733-9175; for Horseheads classes call 739-4581; for Van Etten classes call 589-4755 x3. All Steele classes take place in the Technology Training Lab.

Makerspace Certification Classes

3D Printer

To schedule a training session for one of our certification classes (see below), please call 607-733-6809 during the Tinker Lab's open hours, or E-mail us at: labcentral@stls.org.

Digital Media Lab Certification at Steele

Become certified to use the Digital Media Lab - Learn how to record a video, edit the video and use a green screen to add background effects. You must have a parent present if you are under 16. Once you have completed the certification class, you can use the Digital Media Lab at Steele independently.

3D Printer Certification at Steele

Become certified in the use of the 3D printers at the Steele Memorial Library Makerspace. Learn how to change filament in the printers, navigate the display menus, and utilize the slicer software for optimizing your 3D prints. Completion of the certification process will allow you to use the 3D printers independently. Anyone under the age of 16 will be supervised in the use of the 3D printer.

Tinker Lab @ Steele

Stop by the Tinker Lab to take a class or use the lab equipment independently anytime the lab is open.

Laser Engraving Fee

In order to offset maintenance costs, the Tinker Lab is charging for use of the Epilog Laser cutter and engraver.

Cost for use of the machine will be $0.05 per minute ($3.00 per hour).

This fee is only applied to use during open lab hours, not during workshops or classes that make use of the laser.

Filomena Watercolor Painting

This month we will have our last Hometown Art class of the year with artist Wynn Yarrow. Imagine the place you call home from the air. Create a hardcover accordion book of an aerial landscape. This project is made possible, in part, with public funds from NYSCA's Decentralization Program. On December 28th, join us for a watercolor painting workshop with artist Filomena Jack funded by the QuickARTS grant program administered by The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes and funded by the Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes, Inc. Registration is required for both classes: 733-9175.

FrozenYouth Events @ Steele

Winter Reading Club begins Saturday December 1st and ends Saturday January 5th.  Register online or stop by the children's department to pick up your reading log.  Earn prizes for reaching reading levels, read for 500 minutes to be entered into the grand prize drawing, log minutes at the library or attend winter library programs to earn additional entry ballets.  Children from birth through 13 are welcome!

Big Flats

Mini Gourd Painting

On December 4th from 6-8pm, Karen Curren will be on hand once more for gourd painting. This time we are using mini gourds and painting them for the holidays. Use them as table decorations or tree decorations. Class size is limited, so call and reserve your spot today at 562-3300.

On December 11, it's movie and popcorn night and this time we will be viewing The Incredibles 2. Come and join us for movie fun.  Bring your pillow, or a blanket if you like, you can even come in your jammies if you feel like it.  As always, popcorn will be served. The best movies and the best popcorn are at the Big Flats Branch!!

American MarriageBookmobile

Our book club meets the 2nd Friday of the month at the Bulkhead stop in Southport at 1:30pm. For the month of November we read "The Rooster Bar" by John Grisham. The book discussion will be December 14th. For the month of December we will read "An American Marriage" by Tayari Jones to discuss on January 18th.
