Summer Reading Club

Summer Reading Club finishes up this month. If you participated in the club, contact your library for more information about end of Summer Reading Club celebrations and prize drawings.

Tech Training Lab

All classes are free and registration is required. To register for Steele classes call 733-9175; for Horseheads classes call 739-4581; for Van Etten classes call 589-4755 x3. All Steele classes take place in the Technology Training Lab.

Tinker Lab closed (8/5 - 8/9)
The Tinker Lab will be closed the week of August 5 - 9 for our annual Summer Maker Camp. Regular Tinker Lab hours will resume Monday, August 12.

Reserve the Laser Engraver

Use of the Tinker Lab's laser engraver may now be reserved online: https://ccldmakerspace.youcanbook.me/

Drop in appointments are still accepted.

Tinker Lab Hours

Stop by the Tinker Lab to take a class or use the lab equipment independently anytime the lab is open.

Monday - Thursday: 12:00PM - 3:00PM, 4:00PM - 7:30PM
Friday: 12:00PM - 4:00PM

Steele Memorial

Octopus

We have several art classes for adults this month at Steele! On August 1, join Emma for a Galaxy Dipped Drinking Mug craft. Artist Filomena Jack will be here on August 2 to teach an acrylic painting class! We have two Community Arts Grant funded art workshops with artist Wynn Yarrow as well, on August 8th and 22nd! Finally, on August 27th we have a Henna class with artist Jennifer Sekella. All of these classes require registration. See below for more details.

This project is made possible, in part, with public funds from NYSCA’s Decentralization Program, administered regionally by The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes.

Big Flats

Oliver KitteridgeBig Flats is starting a book club! Stop in on August 1st for your free copy of the book Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout. Read the book during the month of August and be prepared to meet on September 13 at 1:00 p.m. to discuss. The book club moderator is from Ithaca College.

On August 16th, bring your lawn chairs, your appetite, and settle in for a night of music starting at 6pm. The Diamondback Rattlers will be here for your entertainment! The Big Flats Lions Club will sell hotdogs, chips, and drinks. If it rains we will be indoors.

On August 27th, one of the OSFL's chamber music ensembles, The Edgewood Piano Trio (violin, cello, and piano), will present an educational music program that will entertain and enlighten all ages--children and adults. The storybook theme is The Frog Prince with music by Michael Hopkins. This event is free thanks to the generous support of the Upstate Coalition for a Fairgame.

Bookmobile

Here and GoneAugust 24th we will be at Strong Kids Safe Kids 11am-2pm at the Chemung County Fairgrounds. We will have a fun family activity for the kids to enjoy and also a back to school and reading supply basket giveaway and other prizes. Come aboard and fill out a slip for a chance to win.

Our book club meets the 2nd Friday of the month at the Bulkhead stop in Southport at 1:30pm. For the month of July we read Here and Gone, by Haylen Beck, to discuss on August 9th. This month we will read The Child, by Fiona Barton, to discuss at the September meeting.

Wynn Yarrow Art ClassIn August at Horseheads, we continue our series of T'ai Chi classes. We are also holding two art classes this month, both on the theme of book arts! Our afternoon book club selection is The Overstory, by Richard Powers. Also, sign up to learn all about your tablet or smartphone!

Evening Book Club will return Monday, September 23rd at 6:30pm to discuss books from the following summer reading list: I Know This Much Is True, by Wally Lamb; Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, by Gail Honeyman; Mistress of the Ritz, by Melanie Benjamin; Station Eleven, by Emily St. John Mandel; and Educated, by Tara Westover.

Kindergarten Boot Camp

It's back to school time!  Do you have what it takes to go to Kindergarten?  Fine tune your skills at Kindergarten Bootcamp by working your way through stations.  These stations will focus on skills you will need to be successful in kindergarten. *This program is intended for kids that will be entering Kindergarten in September.

The Van Etten Library Summer Reading Club Final Party is on Wednesday, August 14 from 2:30-4:30pm! Join us for our 5th annual Field Day!
