Summer Hours

Summer hours begin on May 14th - All CCLD Libraries will be closed on Saturdays until Fall hours begin.

Note: CCLD libraries will be closed Friday, May 18th for staff continuing education day.

Doggy Tales!

Doggy TalesDoggy Tales is a program for beginning and reluctant readers! Pick out your favorite book and read to the library dog for fifteen minutes!  This program is intended for children ages 5 - 11. An adult caregiver must accompany the reader.

Doggy Tales takes place every Thursday from 3:30-4:30pm until May 24th at Steele Memorial Library.

Staff Changes at West Elmira Branch

How To build and garden in Raised Beds gardening

Tired of bending over, or gardening on your knees? Get started gardening in raised beds! Local gardening guru Terry Carling of Huddle Hill Farm Perennial Gardens will advise us on how to build raised beds, achieve the best soil, and how to figure out what flowers or veggies to grow in your new raised bed. Note the special time for this event: Friday morning at 11:00AM.

Adult Computer Classes

Adult Computer Classes at the Horseheads Library will be held Monday May 14 and 21 and will cover the basics of Internet searching and setting up and using an email account. Please register for these free classes from JobLinks by calling 739-4581 or stopping in at the Horseheads Library. All classes are from 10:00 - 11:30am.

Big Flats Windows Painted by Chemung Valley Montessori School

Big Flats Library Chemung Valley Montessori School students paint the Big Flats windows in honor of Earth Day (April 22). The lower elementary third year students in Art class have been learning about pop artist Keith Haring.  After viewing samples of his work they each created art in the style of Keith Haring that show community and environmental awareness. Wow! What colorful windows.  Stop in and take a look.

Bookmobile - Headstart Carnival

The Headstart Carnival @ EOP (650 Baldwin Street, Elmira, NY) will be on May 19th, 2012 from 10-1. The Bookmobile will be doing a craft, stickers, tattoos, coloring sheets and a game.

Genealogy Workshop for Beginners

There will be a Beginning Genealogy Workshop at the Steele Memorial Library on Thursday, June 14, 2012  from 1:30 - 3:30 pm. Genealogy is the third most popular U. S. hobby today and the second most searched topic online. We will show you how to begin researching your family and introduce you to material available at our library, including databases, recommended websites, microfilm including the NYS Vital Statistics Index, and where to find books you may take home on the subject. Registration is encouraged. Please call the library reference desk at 733-9175.
