Summer Reading Club Begins July 2nd

Registration for our Summer Reading Clubs (both Adult and Youth) begins Monday, July 2nd! Join us for weekly events and prize drawings. For more information, contact your local library. Registration will be available via the CCLD website: http://ccld.lib.ny.us. The programs run through August 10th.

Friends' Summer Concerts begin July 10th

Bring your favorite chair or blanket and join us for the Friends of the Steele Memorial Library Summer Concert Series! The concerts will take place on the Elmira Promenade, outside the Steele Memorial Library, Tuesdays in July, beginning July 10th.  Concerts will be held from 7-8PM, rain or shine.  In case of inclement weather, the concerts will be held in the library auditorium.  What better way to spend a warm summer evening!

Star Wars at Big Flats

Star WarsThe Big Flats Library will be transported to a Galaxy Far, Far Away.  On Tuesday July 24, 2012 @6:00pm the library will be invaded by all your favorite Star Wars characters.  Come dressed as your favorite character from Star Wars for an evening of games and fun for all ages,  but be sure to avoid the lightsabers.  It will be a highly entertaining Galactic experience.

Bookmobile Visits

The Bookmobile will be visiting the Summer Cohesion and Park Programs in July and August.  Some of the highlights will be the Madcap Puppets @ Southside Community Center on July 10th from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm.  On July 17th, Spoonman will be visiting the Southport Parks from 9:15 am to 10:15 am.

iPad Circulation at Horseheads

iPadThis summer (date to be announced), the Horseheads Library will begin to circulate iPads, for in-house library use only. Patrons must be at least 16 years old and present both a CCLD library card and another form of ID when checking out the device. The iPads will be pre-loaded with educational, social apps and games and can be checked out for one hour. The devices are a generous gift to the library from the Public Library Foundation of Chemung County.

Steele Memorial Summer Reading Kickoff

Moreland the MagicianSteele is kicking off its summer reading program with a visit from Moreland The Magician! Join us for an imaginative show filled with theater and magic! Free fun for the whole family! Thursday, July 5 @ 6:30 PM.


Steele Auditorium Upgraded

The Steele Memorial Library is pleased to announce that, thanks to a generous donation from the Friends of the Steele Memorial Library, the auditorium's Audio/Video equipment has been upgraded. This upgrade includes, a Blu-Ray player, a 7.1 surround sound audio system, a high definition projector, and with the properly equipped laptop, auditorium users can plug an HDMI cable from their laptop to project the laptop's screen PLUS play audio files through the new sound system. We should expect more film programs in the near future!

Adult Summer Reading at Van Etten

Shade Gardening Adults can read and get prizes this summer, too!  Weekly prizes will be drawn. Celebrate the Adult Summer Reading theme “Between the Covers” with a gardening event about Gardening under the Covers: ie, Shade Gardening! Terry Carling of Huddle Hill Perennial Farm will help us get beyond the hosta in our shady flower beds. Wed. July 11 @ 1:00pm-2:00pm. Everyone welcome!

West Elmira Waterfalls Adventure

WaterfallJoin John and Sue Babbitt for a waterfalls adventure at the West Elmira Library on Monday July 23rd at 6PM.  The Babbitts have been visiting and photographing waterfalls for the past several years.  They will be presenting a show on the beautiful "Waterfalls of the Finger Lakes" with a special emphasis on the waterfalls in Ithaca. There is no registration required.
