Construction Closings

Strange MistSteele will be closed December 3, 4, and 5, although the meeting and conference rooms will be available for those groups that have reserved them. In addition the program The Paranormal: The Truth Revealed will still he held on Tuesday December 4, 2012 from 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM. Come and hear the details of the Pennsylvania based group’s experience with ghost research in New York and Pennsylvania.  This program is free and open to the public.  For additional information visit their website.

West Elmira and Big Flats Libraries will offer limited services from December 3-6. During this period patrons will be able to pick up holds and will have Internet access until December 6th. On December 7th both branches will close and reopen on January 28th, 2013.

While their local branch is closed, patrons may choose to visit these nearby branches: Steele Memorial, Horseheads, and Van Etten.  In addition the District’s Bookmobile will be available (for the schedule check the bookmobile webpage).

The outdoor book returns at Big Flats and West will be locked but books may be returned to any other CCLD library or the Bookmobile.

Bookmobile

The Bookmobile continues to make its bi-weekly stops. At Southside Community Center we will be enjoying holiday crafts with the young people. Also, our holiday collection will be available for circulation.

The holiday season is a great time of year to check out a book to share with your children or grandchildren and help them discover its true meaning.

Please be aware that the Bookmobile will be off the road from December 24th through January 1st, 2013. There are also some changes to the regular December schedule, so please check the online calendar.

Horseheads

Gift BagsOur December events offer something for everyone...for adults, sign up for our free computer class on PowerPoint Presentations from JobLink, Monday December 10 at 5:30. Please call 739-4581 to register.

Adult Tuesday noontime movies run December 4, 11 and 18. Come and watch our free films in our newly renovated meeting room and enjoy some snacks while you enjoy the show. All are welcome, registration is not necessary and they run between noon and 1 p.m.

Our English as a Second Language group meets the first and third Fridays of the month from 9:30-11:00 a.m. Join us for coffee and conversation in an informal, friendly environment.
Also, a holiday family film event "The Polar Express" will be shown Saturday December 15 at 2:00, free, with cookies and hot chocolate!

Children can sign up for a Holiday craft event on Wednesday December 12 at 6:30...make a present to give to someone special. Please register by calling 739-4581.

Steele Memorial

Youth Services

The Children's Department at the Steele Library has lots of fun events planned at holiday time!

Steele is planning a Holiday Pageant that will take place December 19 at 3:30pm! 

Sophie - The Great-horned OwlFor your enjoyment, every Thursday at 6pm and Friday at 3pm, from December 27 through January 18, we will be showing movies at Steele.  Check our calendar of events for a full list of our scheduled shows.

And, mark your calendars! Tanglewood will be presenting Raptors! on January 2, from 3-4pm.

All these great events will be held in the Steele Library's Auditorium. See you then!

West Homeschool Group @ Steele

While West Elmira Library is closed, their homeschool group will meet in the Steele Auditorium on Wednesdays at 10:30.  In December this will include the 12th and the 19th.

Van Etten

Hot CiderAre you worn to a frazzle by all the holiday shopping and errands crammed into every December weekend?  Van Etten Library is here to help! Stop by Van Etten Library every Saturday in December from 11am to 5pm for music, hot chocolate or hot apple cider and other treats. Relax for a few minutes or a few hours. Escape with a good book.  Your public library is your refuge.
