Holiday Closing

February 18 - The Central Library (Elmira) will be open from 10am-6pm. All of the other branches will be closed.

Patron Appreciation Week

New Circulation Desk at WestAfter several remodeling projects at our branches we are proud to announce that they are all open for business. Each branch will be having a small event to celebrate.

West Elmira- Monday, February 11th. Beginning at 4PM, Autumn Rose Lester and Marc Chevalier will perform until about 6pm. At 6:00 there will be a special story time where each staff member will share their favorite story. Refreshments will be served.

Big Flats- Tuesday, February 12th.  Starting with a special story time program and craft for all ages @6:00pm followed by hor d'oeuvres and music.  Come see our new look and furnishings and have some great munchies too.

Horseheads- Wednesday, February 13th. Patron Appreciation Day between 1:00 and 4:00, stop in and enjoy treats and children’s activities in our new meeting room. We will also hold a drawing for a lovely Valentine’s Gift Basket. At 2:00 the Chemung County Library District will unveil a special commemorative plaque honoring Ruth B. Leet and her contributions to the former Horseheads Free Library.

Central (Elmira)- Thursday, February 14th. There will be a Valentine story time/party for Preschool/Toddlers from 10:30 to 11:30am. In the afternoon, from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM, tours of our new computer lab and quiet room will be available. Music will be provided by John Manfredi and refreshments will be served. A "library lovers" gift basket will be given away to one lucky visitor. In the evening from 6:30 to 8:00pm our Kids' Poetry Workshop series kicks off- registration required.

Van Etten- Saturday, February 16th. Chocolate candy handed out, treats on hand to nibble on all day and a drawing for a “library lover’s gift basket”.

Bookmobile- The Bookmobile will be participating in Patron Appreciation Week by giving out candy, bookmarks, and other prizes to its patrons.   Also we will be doing a Valentine craft with some of the children at our stops that week.

Friends of CCLD Annual Book Sale

The Friends of CCLD Book Sale will take place this month at the Arnot Mall, next to Bon Ton (in the space where Jo-Ann Fabric was previously located). The sale schedule is as follows.

Popcorn & Movie Night - Tuesday, February 5 - 6:00 PM
Come join us for our first night of programs since our remodel with a viewing of Hotel Transylvania. Even Monsters need a Vacation.

Adult Events

New Year New You programs continue at the Central Branch!

ESNYEat Smart Classes with Cornell Cooperative Extension and Zumba will continue in February as part of our New Year New You Series. Check our calendar of events for more details.

The Creative YOU: As Seen on Pinterest will be held on February 5, 2013 at 7:00pm. If you have a nifty craft you’ve made from Pinterest, come and share it with us. If you are curious about Pinterest and would like to learn more about it, this program is for you too.

Come join us for an evening program of traditional and contemporary Gospel music presented by the New Day Ministry Ensemble and a dance performance by the Fusion Dance Ministry. This event will be held on February 26, 2013 at 7:00pm.

Youth Events

Back by popular demand! Kids Poetry Workshop! Join us every Thursday evening, February 14, 21, March 7, 14, from 6:30-8pm. Registration is required and limited to 20. Please inquire at the Customer Service desk.

On Thursday, February 21 from 3:30-5 we will present "The Native Experience - Appreciating Native American Culture and History". All ages welcome, but registration is a must. Please register at the Customer Service Desk.

Come by on Feb 27 at 3:30 for an encore presentation of Messy Munchies!

Horseheads

Downton Abbey Afternoon Tea with Downton Abbey will be held on Thursday February 21 at 3:00. Come and join in our lively discussion while enjoying tea and treats, and answering trivia questions. Call 739-4581 to register.

On Saturday, February 16, come meet the author of “Be a Glutton without the Gluten”, a cookbook chock full of recipes for those who can’t eat gluten. Steven Palmer will have lots of tips and advice. Please call 739-4581 to register. The event runs from 2:00-3:30.

Kids enjoy Saturday story times on February 2, 9, and 16 at 11:00 with the Horseheads High School Interact Club. Saturday February 2 at 2:00, register for a kid’s Valentine Craft activity by calling 739-4581 (this is for ages 5 and up).

Van Etten loves Origami! Join us  for another popular origami workshop with local crafter Ruth Vath.  Create Valentine themed folded paper crafts. The class is free. Teens and adults welcome!
