Welcome to the Chemung County Library District

March 2013 Newsletter

Message from the Director

Chemung MapI wanted to take a moment and thank all our patrons and friends for their support through the last 7 years as we continue to improve our library district.

As a reminder, in November of 2005, Chemung County residents approved the creation of a public library district that covers all of Chemung County. Upon the granting of its charter by the board of regents, title to all library properties and funds that were held by the Steele Memorial Library and the Horseheads Free Library were transferred to the CCLD and their employees became employees of the library district. Coming from a background where I worked in both a school district library and a Town/Village library, I realize how critical this merger was for the continued success of libraries in Chemung County.

As a Librarian and someone with a Masters in History, I believe very strongly that we must respect the past, but we cannot make it our jailer.  It is such a great moment of liberation when we let go and walk out onto a new path of promise and possibility.  I want to reiterate the progress we have made and I look forward to future cooperation between all of our supporters. Only by working together can we succeed.

Big Flats

Wreck It RalphEvery month at Big Flats we host a Popcorn & Movie night and in March we are showing a good one. “Wreck It Ralph” is a fun movie for all ages and with our great sound system, it’s a guaranteed fun time. Just like in the movie theatre, only it’s FREE!

Hope to see you soon!
