Summer Reading Club Kicks Off

Dig into Reading Come to our District-wide New York State Summer Reading Club Launch Event on Tuesday, June 25th from 6:00-8:00pm, and get into the youth summer theme of "Dig Into Reading" by visiting several game and craft stations for kids. The event will take place at CCLD's Central Library where state and local dignitaries will be on hand for special readings and proclamations; refreshments will be served. Top the night of fun off with a performance by the BubbleMan, Doug Rougeaux and his exciting, interactive show at 7:00. Fun for all and free! Sign up to participate in Summer Reading Club online, or at your local branch.

Groundbreaking ReadsDistrict-wide Adult Summer Reading Club festivities begin Monday, July 1st and continue through Friday, August 9th, 2013.  The Theme this year is "Ground breaking Reads".  Sign up online, make your reading entries, and read members’ book reviews via our Summer Reading Club webpage.  There will be weekly prize giveaways and a Summer Reading Club grand prize drawing at each branch for reading club participants. Take advantage of our free weekly adult programs happening throughout the district.  Stay tuned for specific program announcements in our July newsletter or check the Calendar of Events on our website.

Friends Annual Meeting & Dinner

The Friends of CCLD Annual Meeting and Dinner will be held on June 20th at Community Arts of Elmira.  The meeting will be at 6pm with a buffet dinner by McClure's Catering to follow at 7pm.  Live music will be provided by José "Jogo" Gomez.  Payment of $18 is due by June 10th.  Mail to Annual Meeting, Friends of CCLD, 101 E. Big Flats

The month of June is recovery time for Big Flats Library after a busy and very successful Winter/Spring story time season.  We are planning an exciting Summer Reading Club that will be bigger and better than ever.  Stay tuned for details!

Central (Elmira) - Adult

Central Branch Providing Help for Job Seekers

JobNowThe Central Branch of the Chemung County Library District is pleased to announce that they will now offer every patron with a library card online access to free expert job coaching through the JobNow program from Brainfuse, Inc.  Patrons of all ages can access this new service from public computers in every branch or from home, and connect one-to-one to a trained job coach for assistance in their job search process. 

The JobNow service offers resume and cover letter templates and examples, live interview practice, online resources, and more. In addition to Job hunting assistance, JobNow includes help with basic skills such as math, reading, and writing, Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint; or help preparing to take the GED, or US Citizenship Exam.

Cardholders from any CCLD branch can access JobNow, seven days a week from 2 pm - 11 pm and connect for a one-to-one session with a carefully-selected and fully-qualified job coach. To access this unique resource, follow the link found at: http://ccld.lib.ny.us/jobnow.htm

JobNow was purchased with Central Book Aid Funds provided to CCLD's Central Branch by New York State.

New Faces at the Central Library

Welcome to the start of great summer! We’re in the process of hiring some new Circulation staff at the Central Library so if you see a new face or two, please say hello and introduce yourself.  Since these "newbies" will be undergoing extensive training, please be patient if it takes them a little longer to complete your checkout than one our veterans. Thank you and we hope you have a happy summer!

Central (Elmira) - Youth

Father's DayThere will be a Father's Day Make and Take Craft for Kids Ages 5 and up on Thursday June 13 at 3:30. Come and join Miss Kristal and Miss Emma as they show you how to create something cool to give to Dad or Grandpa...just in time for Father’s Day! Call 733-9174 to register, or stop by the Customer Service Desk to sign up.

Horseheads

The Horseheads Branch will have a Father’s Day BBQ on June 14 at 3:30pm.  There will be food, games, and crafts.  Kids are encouraged to bring any father-like figure they would like, including brothers, uncles, and grandpas. This program is for children ages 5 and up. Registration will be required.

Van Etten

eReadersJobLink will be at Van Etten Library this month for computer classes!

Managing Your Digital Photos will be held on Wednesday, June 5th at 1:30pm. Do you love your digital camera, but can't find that cute picture of your dog sneaking a piece of Grandma's birthday cake? Don't know how to send your new baby's picture to your family three states away? This free, hands-on workshop is for you! Find out how to transfer your digital photos from your digital camera to your computer, and name and organize them into folders. Tips and resources for sharing your photos on Facebook, flickr, etc, will also be covered. Laptops will be provided.

The following week, join us for Downloading Library eBooks on Wednesday, June 12th at 1:30pm. Check out library eBooks for free on your eReader, tablet, or smartphone! This class will cover how to search for your library's eBooks, check them out, and download to your device. No fines or late fees, ever again!
This class is free; laptops are provided.

West Elmira

Perler Peg CraftWest Elmira Library is gearing up for Summer Reading Club.  The children's theme this year is "Dig Into Reading" and staff have come up with the perfect craft program to get you looking forward to this year's club!  On Monday, June 10th we will be having a Perler Peg Craft afternoon.  Come in anytime between 2 and 6 PM to make a shovel, flower, ant or anything that digs.  You will be making two:  one to take home with you and one for the bulletin board here at the library. 

The teen photography contest has begun. To participate you will need to stop by West Elmira Library for a rules and submission form.  We will be accepting submissions until June 24th and are looking forward to seeing your interpretation of the teen Summer Reading Club theme-"Beneath the Surface".

Adults are invited to attend a two day art workshop with local artist, Gaile Beizavi.  On June 11th and June 12th from 9 AM to 12 PM, Gaile will be leading classes on preliminary steps to drawing portraits.  Registration is required and class size will be limited.
