Civil War Program - Hijinks and Home

Civil War CampAuthor, singer, entertainer Judy Cook will be performing her Civil War program "Hijinks and Home" at the Central Library on Monday, June 16th at 6:30pm.  Join us as Judy reads letters written by her own great-great-grandparents to introduce songs that will make you laugh, cry, and understand.  "Hijinks and Home" focuses on camp life, and the home front.  The songs and tunes include both well-known favorites and unfamiliar gems. The themes are timeless: joy and sorrow, humor, courage and love. Letters, images, and music combine to provide fascinating insight into camp and home life in Middle America of the 1860's.  The stories are told in the words of the people of the day: the writers of the songs and letters. We sing together, as folks did then. The audience is transported to the time of the Civil War in a very personal, eye-witness experience.  There will be an intermission during the program; refreshments will be provided.

Mac and MeJoin us for "So bad, it's good" movie night at 6:30pm on Friday, June 27th.  This month we are showing Mac and Me, the 1988 ET rip-off/ McDonald's and Coca-Cola commercial.  A "mysterious alien creature" (Mac) is befriended by a boy in a wheelchair who tries to reunite the alien with his family.  As always, heckling is encouraged!  The library closes at 5pm but the doors will be open to moviegoers at 6pm. Free popcorn!

What is your opinion?

StacksCCLD Central wants to know whether our patrons prefer browsing our books by genre, such as Mystery, Western, and Science Fiction, as they are currently organized, or whether you would prefer us to interfile them all alphabetically by author, leaving the genre stickers on the back (all books by one author would be together). Any change would require a lot of work by staff and volunteers so we would really like you to let us know which you prefer, before any action is taken. Answer our one question survey to let us know what you think.
