Vote for your library!Don't forget to vote on the library’s budget on Tuesday, November 4th, during the general election. The library budget will be on the back of the ballot listed as both Proposal No. 4 and as County Proposition No. 1. For more information, check out this recent Star Gazette article:

Closings

November 11 - Steele Memorial Library will be open from 10am-6pm; all other CCLD locations will be closed for Veterans Day.

November 27 - All CCLD locations will be closed for Thanksgiving.

November 28 - Steele Memorial Library will be open from 9am-5pm; all other CCLD locations will be closed for Thanksgiving.

International Games Day @Your Library

International Games DayChemung County Library District will join libraries around the world this month, for the seventh annual celebration of gaming in libraries – International Games Day @ your library.  All ages are welcome!

Steele Memorial Library and Horseheads Free Library will be celebrating from 11-4pm on Saturday, November 15th.  Stop by Steele Memorial for a Minecraft event from 11-2pm, courtesy of Rainy Toad Gaming!  There will also be Wii, board games, giant Jenga, snacks, prizes, and more!  The Horseheads festivities will include Library Pong (all day), PS3 games until 2:30pm, and a Wii Carnival tournament at 2:30pm!

West Elmira Library and Van Etten Library will celebrate Games Day on Friday, November 14th!  At West Elmira, stop in anytime from 12-5pm for assorted board games and GIANT games of Scrabble, Connect 4, Jenga, Chutes and Ladders, and Tic, Tac, Toe!  Van Etten will have games available from 3-5pm!

Craft Club

The new Craft Club will meet in the large meeting room at Steele on Thursdays from 9:00 am- 11:00 am. Some supplies will be provided (first come first served) and we encourage attendees to bring a craft  to work on or share with others.

Genealogy Workshop

Family TreeOn November 5th, 2:00-4:00pm: Beginner's Genealogy will help you understand the research process and the way we interpret the information we find. When you're a family history newbie, the prospect of diving into your roots research can seem overwhelming. This course will start you on the fun and rewarding journey of discovering your roots. Book Making Workshop

Book MakingJoin us at Steele on Wednesday, November 19th at 6pm for a book making workshop led by local artist, Wynn Yarrow. The finished product will be a 5"x6" hard cover book without a spine (a fancy journal)--a perfect gift for the holidays.  Registration is required for this program; please call (607)733-9173.

Teen - Mockingjay Release Party

On Thursday, November 20th from 6:00pm-8:30pm, celebrate the movie release of Mockingjay Part 1 at our Hunger Games Party. Snacks, Hunger Games trivia, prizes, and watch Catching Fire!

"So bad, it's good!" Movie Night

Birdemic 2Join us on November 21st, 6:30pm at the Steele Memorial Library for another installment of "So bad, it's good!" Movie Night!  This month we are showing Birdemic 2:  The Resurrection. As always, heckling is encouraged! The library closes at 5pm but the doors will be open to moviegoers at 6pm.  Free popcorn! **Not intended for children**

Teen - Create Monsters with littleBits Electronics

Teen MakersTuesday, November 25th from 6-8pm, come to our Teen Maker Night to create, tinker, and geek out! Each month we'll do a different project: everything from cooking, photography and legos to arduino, makey-makey, and 3D printing. This month, build monsters with littleBits electronic kits.  PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED - space and supplies are limited. Call 733-9173.

Concert with American Roots Artist, Marc Berger

Join us on Thursday, December 4th at 7pm for a free concert at Steele Memorial Library. Marc Berger has performed at Austin’s South by Southwest Music Festival, The Kerrville Folk Festival, and has opened shows for Bob Dylan and other national acts. Hear tracks, watch video, and get the backstory for his album RIDE at: www.marcbergermusic.com.

Youth Services

Tween Maker Club

A Maker club for tweens (ages 8-12) will meet Wed. November 5th from 4:00-5:00, and on the first Wednesday of the following months. Come have creative, hands on fun with circuit building, craft activities and so much more. Registration is required, please phone 733-9174.

Author Visit with Story & Games

On Wed. November 12th at 4:00, we welcome author Joyce French, author of "The Popcorn Tree", she will read the book and offer copies for sale. We'll also play popcorn bingo and eat yummy popcorn. Especially for ages 4 and up.

Curious GeorgeCurious George Visit

Curious George visits the library on Wednesday, November 19th at 3:30. Join George for games, stories and snacks! Be sure and bring your camera to take your child's picture with George.

Storytimes

Baby lapsit storytime meets every Thursday at 10:30 for ages 3 months-24 months, and toddler/preschool time meets Fridays at 10:30, no storytime on Friday Nov. 7 or Nov. 28.

Big Flats

The Big Flats Library is in the Thanksgiving mood in November and fun things are happening.

Tuesday Evening Programs

All Tuesday evening programs start at 6:00 p.m.  Reminder:  we will be closed November 11th.

MaleficentNovember 4th, it's Popcorn and Movie Night as we buckle down to watch Disney's Maleficent starring Angelina Jolie.

November 18th, come and meet Curious George!!  George will be on hand for pictures and high jinx so we hope that you will join us for his visit.

November 25th, we will be starting our holiday craft series!  Registration is required because supplies are limited; call 562-3300 to sign up.

Weekly Programs

As always, Miss Melanie will host Toddler/Preschool Storyhour on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m., Miss Glen hosts Baby Lapsit Thursday mornings at 10:30 a.m., and Miss Becky has a great Homeschool Program on Thursday afternoons at 2:00 pm.

Swing into the Big Flats Branch and see what is new on our shelves and check out a book or 2 while you are here, and thanks for being such great patrons of the library.

Bookmobile

The bookmobile is decorated for the fall season and we would like to invite you to come and check out a book or two.  On November 14th from 3:00pm-4:00pm, join us at the Southside Community Center to make a Thanksgiving  craft.  Make sure to check out the CCLD blog as, each month,  Ms. Kim is going to highlight one of the Bookmobile stops; if you have never been on the Bookmobile visit one of our stops and see what we have to offer.  The Bookmobile carries adult fiction and non- fiction, large print, audio, DVDs, and of course Children’s books.   See you soon!

Horseheads

Author Meet and Greet

Stop by the Horseheads Library on Monday, November 3rd from 6-7pm for a meet and greet with local Horseheads teacher, Doris Pariso, author of Survivor Tree (soon to be published); she will be reading an excerpt from her new book.

MaleficentSecond Saturday Movie Matinee

Every second Saturday we will be showing a matinee! This Month, join us Saturday, November 8th at 2:30pm for Maleficent.

Pajama Storytime

Join us every 2nd Monday of the month for a Pajama Storytime.  Join us in your favorite PJ's to sing songs and read stories to get ready for bed. This month:  Monday, November 10th, 6:30pm.

Adult Card Making Class

Join us for some card making fun!  Registration is required and limited! Sign up today at the Horseheads Library, or call 739-4581.  Wednesday,  November 12th, 2:00-4:00 PM and 5:00-7:00 PM (please note this is an adult program).

Kids Holiday Crafts

Give thanks and get crafty with Thanksgiving Day crafts on Monday, November 24th at 6:15.

Scandinavian Finger Knitting

West Elmira

Home School Group

The West Elmira Homeschool Group meets every Wednesday at 10:30am (geared for ages 5-11).

Pajama Story Time

Join us on Mondays at 6pm! Put your "jammies" on and bring Mom and Dad for stories, music and fun!

Thursday Morning Storytime

Join us on Thursdays at 10:30am for a fun time of stories, music, and movement! Ages 18 mos to 5 years.

Big BearAuthor Maureen Wright Visits

Special storytimes with popular author Maureen Wright!  Maureen will read some of her books and do a small craft with our weekly storytime groups. November 3rd at 6pm and November 6th at 10:30am.

Kids Craft

There will be a Thanksgiving craft for kids on November 19th at 3:30pm (registration required).

Book Clubs

Adult Book Club meets on November 20th at 3pm. Registration is appreciated! This month we are reading The Invisible Wall: A Love Story that Broke Barriers by Harry Bernstein.

Young Adult Book Club meets on November 24th at 7pm. Registration is appreciated! This month we are reading Montmorency: Thief, Liar, Gentleman? by Eleanor Updale.

Art Adventure with Enchantment

Local artist Gaile Beizavi will lead children in a series of art workshops, held the 1st and 2nd Wednesday of each month (ages 5-11). Children must be signed up by an adult. More details will be provided by calling or stopping by.

Bridge Club

Join us at the West Elmira Library every Monday and Friday from 1p-3p for all types of bridge. Registration is required. Call 733-0541.

Volunteers Needed

West Elmira is currently looking for several dedicated volunteers to help with shelving and other library tasks. Please call or stop in for more information. “Volunteers are not paid-- not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless!”
