On behalf of the Board of Trustees and staff of the library, please accept our heartfelt appreciation for the support given to the library by our community. Our 2015 library budget passed:

Yes Votes- 10754
No Vote- 6194
Total Votes- 16948
Percentage approval- 63.45%

Voters also elected Patricia Silvernail (District 1), Clare Bonnie Challot (District 5), Phyllis Rogan (District 10) and Richard Roberts (District 14) to the Library Board of Trustees.

We look forward to serving you in many ways in the coming years.

Adult & Teen Services

Concert with American Roots Artist, Marc Berger

Join us on Thursday, December 4th at 7pm for a free concert at Steele Memorial Library. Marc Berger has performed at Austin’s South by Southwest Music Festival, The Kerrville Folk Festival, and has opened shows for Bob Dylan and other national acts. Hear tracks, watch video, and get the backstory for his album RIDE at: www.marcbergermusic.com.

Teen/Tween Video Gaming

Minecraft

Are your Teens and Tweens (10-18yrs) bored during winter break? Register for our video gaming session on Monday December 29 from 1-4pm. The event will take place in Steele Library's large conference room. Video gaming provided by Rainy Toad. Call the library to register: 733-9173.

Teen Maker Night: Wire Jewelry & 3D Printing

Creative Teens:  create jewelry out of wire, beads, or 3D printed accessories, on Tuesday, December 23 @ 6:00pm in the Tinker Lab at Steele Memorial Library. REGISTRATION REQUIRED: space and materials are limited. Call 733-9173. Tell us what kind of project you want to explore in January's Teen Maker Night!

Youth Services

Gingerbread House Craft

Gingerbread HouseMake a Gingerbread House for the Holidays, on Thursday, December 18 at 3:30pm. We will supply all the materials you need to create a yummy and beautiful candy house. Registration is required, please stop at the Youth Desk or call 733-9174 to sign up. For kids ages 4 and up.

Family Movie Fest

Winter Break Family Movie Fest...first, join us for the holiday classic, The Polar Express on Tuesday, December 23 at 2:00pm. Enjoy cookies and hot chocolate with this feature. On Tuesday, December 30, we will show the newly released Dolphin Tale 2 at 2:00pm with snacks provided. Come in from the cold and enjoy these two shows.

Lapsit & Storytime Break

The last Baby Lapsit program for the season will be held on Thursday, December 11 and the last Toddler storytime on Friday, December 12, we will then take a short break and start again in January. See you then!

Big Flats

Christmas Craft

On Tuesday, December 2,  Big Flats Library will start decorating for Christmas, but all of our tree decorations have been damaged.  Please help us make more by attending the Christmas craft program at 6:00p.m.  Make a decoration for our tree, and make one for your own at the same time.  Registration is required: 562-3300.

Astronomy for Everyone

SaturnOn December 9, retired NASA Consultant Kevin Manning will be at the Big Flats Library for a special presentation:  Astronomy for Everyone: Size and Scale of the Universe, followed by a viewing of the craters of the moon and rings of Saturn through a telescope, weather permitting, so bundle up.  This program has been sponsored by the Friends of CCLD and we hope to see all of you for this exciting event.  This program is free, open to everyone, no registration required, and will start at 6 p.m.

Mrs. Santa Claus Visit

On Tuesday, December 16, Mrs. Santa Claus will be the guest of honor at Big Flats.  We hope that you come for a fun night of songs and stories.  This program is free, open to everyone, and no registration is required.

Storyhour & Homeschool Break

As always, Miss Melanie will have Toddler/Preschool Storyhour on Wednesday morning at 10:30.  Storyhours end for the season on December 10th.  Homeschool will end for the season on December 11 but Miss Becky will back in January with more exciting lessons.

Bookmobile

Stop by the Southside Community Center on December 12th from 3-4pm for a Christmas ornament craft with Bookmobile staff.  Be sure to check out the new children's books recently added to the collection.  Happy Holidays from the Bookmobile staff!

Storytimes

Guardians of the GalaxyPreschool Stortime will be Tuesday, December 2nd and 9th at 10:30am. Toddler Storytime will be Thursday, December 4th and 11th at 10:30am. On Monday, December 8th, join us for Pajama Storytime at 6:30pm - wear your 'jammers and get ready for bed with pajama storytime.

Second Saturday Movie Matinee

Saturday, December 13th we will be showing Guardians of the Galaxy at 2:30pm.

Chrismahanukwanzakah Craft Party

Celebrate many of the winter holidays from around the world with crafts and a light snack on Monday, December 15th at 6:15pm. This event is intended for children and registration is required.

Lit Lovers Seek New Members

Are you interested in joining a book discussion group? The  Lit Lovers Group which  meets between 1 pm and 3 pm on the 2nd Thursday of every month at the Horseheads Free Library is seeking new members. We read and discuss an eclectic mix of titles that always lead to a lively discussion. Call Claudia at 739-0858 for more information.

Van Etten

Planes:  Fire & RescueStop by Van Etten Library December 3rd at 4:45pm for Family Movie Night, featuring Planes:  Fire & Rescue.  Bring your fully charged tablet or smart phone with you for Tablet Talk on December 8th from 2-5pm.  This is an informal Q&A session where you will learn more about your device and how to download eBooks from the library.  Teen Movie Night will be December 10th at 4:45pm with a showing of "If I Stay".  There will be a candle making craft on December 12th at 2:00pm for ages 12 and up.  Our Holiday Crafts for Kids event will take place on December 17th at 5:15; registration is required 589-4755 ext. 3.

West Elmira

Home School Group

The West Elmira Homeschool Group will meet Wednesdays 12/3-12/17 at 10:30am (geared for ages 5-11).  Local Author Maureen Wright will visit the group on December 3rd.

Pajama Story Time

Join us on Monday 12/1 & 12/8 at 6pm! Put your "jammies" on and bring Mom and Dad for stories, music and fun!

Thursday Morning Story Time

Join us on Thursday 12/4 & 12/11 at 10:30am for a fun time of stories, music, and movement! Ages 18mos to 5 years.

Kids Craft

There will be a holiday craft for kids on December 17th at 3:30pm (registration required).

Cheese

On December 11th at 5pm, join us as Deb Allen, the Old World Cheese Manager from Wegmans, demonstrates how to assemble seasonal cheese boards and other assorted finger foods.

Book Clubs

Adult Book Club meets on December 18th at 3pm. Registration is appreciated! This month we are reading “Wishin’ and Hopin’: A Christmas Story” by Wally Lamb.

Young Adult Book Club meets on December 22nd at 7pm. Registration is appreciated! This month we are reading “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens.

Bridge Club

Join us at the West Elmira Library every Monday and Friday from 1p-3p for all types of bridge. Registration is required. Call 733-0541.

Have some old LEGOs lying around the house?  Donate them to the library! After many requests from the public, we are hoping to start a LEGO club after the New Year but we need lots of LEGOs to start our collection.  All donors will be publicly recognized in our publicity for the program.

Everyday Objects - Friends Poetry Reading

Friends of Chemung County Library District presents Everyday Objects, a poetry reading by Edward Dougherty.  Join us Thursday, December 11th at 6:30pm.  The Friends of CCLD Adult Poetry Awards will follow the guest reading.  This event will take place in the large meeting room at Steele Memorial Library and is free and open to the public.
