Closings

January 1 - All CCLD locations will be closed.

January 19 - Steele Memorial Library will be open from 10-6pm; all other CCLD locations will be closed for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Lab Central Makerspace Hours

The CCLD Tinker Lab at Steele Memorial Library was closed for the holidays and will be reopening on January 10th with regular hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-7pm and Saturdays 10-2pm. The Broadcast Lab will be opening soon. For more information: http://ccld.lib.ny.us/makerspace/

Registration is required for all sessions. To register for Steele classes call 733-9175; for Horseheads classes call 739-4581; for Van Etten classes call 589-4755 ext 3.

Tablet Talk

Learn how to use your tablet in a casual setting, talk to other tablet users, share woes, get advice, ask questions, and more. Bring your tablet or smartphone and your questions!

Tech Tutoring

Horseheads - Tuesdays in January, 7:00-7:45pm - designed to be informal question and answer sessions limited to 2 students per session.
Steele - Mondays in January, 1:00pm, by appointment, limited to 2 students per session. Get basic computer help from one of our volunteers.

Ultimate Fit ChickHave you made a New Year's resolution to get in shape?  We want to help you keep it!  Steele Memorial Library will be offering a series of "New Year, New You" programs in the coming months that will help you to stay on track.

Teen Art Studio

Tues, Jan 6 @ 5:30pm-6:45pm
Teens 12-18 yrs:  Create and share your artwork in any medium...pencil, paint, even painted sneakers or found sculpture and jewelry! Bring your own materials if you can. (Our supplies are limited, but we accept donations of art supplies in GOOD condition). Where: Tinker Lab, downstairs Steele Library. Show off what you can do and learn from your peers! We meet the first Tuesday of every month.

Special Teen Night: Teen Basic Self-Defense

Parent-Signed Waiver & Registration required
On Tuesday, Jan 13, 6:30-7:30pm, karate instructor Amy Bond will teach basic self-defense moves and discuss prevention of dangerous situations. For BOTH male AND female Teens ages 12-18. MUST BRING PARENT-SIGNED WAIVER TO CLASS to participate.  Pick up waivers at Steele Library customer service desk, or email teen librarian metzgerd@stls.org for one. Call 733-9173 to register, but MUST also get waiver.  Class size is limited, so sign up today!

"So bad, it's good!" Movie Night

Battlefield EarthJoin us on January 23rd, 6:30pm at the Steele Memorial Library for another installment of "So bad, it's good!" Movie Night! This month we are showing Battlefield Earth. As always, heckling is encouraged! The library closes at 5pm but the doors will be open to moviegoers at 6pm.  Free popcorn!

Teen Maker Night: Sweaters & Shrinky Dinks

Like to sew? Bring an old sweater and make it into a bag, cool top, etc. Not a sewer?  Try Shrinky Dinks! We'll be creating with those! (and trying not to blow up the toaster oven!...just kidding).

Teen maker night is the 4th Tuesday of every month. Tell us what YOU want to create, learn or explore! We can do everything from cooking, sewing, and fine art to arduino, and 3D printing! What we offer depends on your interests, so let us know!  REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED: 733-9173.

Welcome 2015 and the return of our favorite regular programs, plus some new great offerings!

Storytimes

Storytimes return Thursdays beginning Jan. 22 at 10:30 for ages 2 and under, and Fridays at 10:30 beginning Jan. 23 for ages 2 and up!  Please join us for stories, music, movement, rhymes, and fingerplays.

Middle Makers Club & LEGO Club

Miss Emma returns with Middle Makers Club, creating lots of fun stuff for kids ages 8-12, the first Wed. of every month, and LEGO Club for ages 5-12, the second Wednesday of every month.  Both clubs run from 4:00-5:00 and registration is required.

PenguinLet's Explore... Penguins

We will begin a Let's Explore series, especially suited for kids ages 4 and up on the third Wednesday of every month from 3:00-4:00, no need to register. Our first one will be Wed. Jan. 21 and we will learn all about penguins, with stories, crafts, and fun activities!

Big Flats

Popcorn and Movie Night

The holidays are over, a new year is here, and the fun programs are back.  On Tuesday, January 6th we will have a movie and popcorn night.  Guardians of the Galaxy comes to our big screen and as always, popcorn will be served. 

Piggy BanksPiggy Bank Craft

Have you made a New Year's resolution to save money?  Come to the library and paint a piggy bank, on Tuesday, January 13th. Space is limited, so call 562-3300 to register.

Author Visit

Tuesday, January 20th brings author Doris Pariso to the Big Flats Library where she will discuss her latest book.  The talk starts at 6pm and books will be available to purchase and have her sign. 

Family Game Night

Finally, on January 27th, Family Game Night returns with board games and Wii bowling.  We hope that you will come and join the fun.

Storyhour

Miss Melanie returns with Toddler/Preschool Storyhour on Wednesday, January 14th and Miss Becky will be back with homeschool fun starting Thursday, January 15th.

Bookmobile

Happy New Year from the Bookmobile! We hope you had a nice holiday and look forward to seeing you this year at one of our scheduled stops.

Horseheads

Frozen sing-a-longSecond Saturday Matinee

Stop by the Horseheads Library on Saturday, January 10th at 2:30pm for Frozen sing-along edition.  Feel free to come dressed up as your favorite characters and join us as we sing along to Disney's Frozen and make "Frozen" silly putty.

Storytimes

Preschool Storytimes begin Tuesday, January 13th at 10:30. Toddler Storytimes begin Thursday, January 15th at 10:30.

Alzheimer's Awareness

Join us for an informative presentation on the many aspects of Alzheimer's Disease. Marleah Denkenberger, Southern Tier program Coordinator of the Alzheimer's Association, will lead the presentation. Registration is required. Space is limited. Wednesday, January 14th,  2015, 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM.

Kitty Lit Reading Program

Join the Chemung County SPCA and some of their cats and read your favorite stories to them! Open to students in Grade 1 - Grade 6. Registration is required. Space is strictly limited. Call 739-4581 to register. Tuesday, January 20 - 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM.

Van Etten

Guardians of the GalaxyThis month's Open Art Studio sessions will take place Wednesday, January 14th and 28th 1pm-3pm.

Teen Movie Night is on Wednesday,  Jan 14th at 4:45.  This month we are showing Guardians of the Galaxy  (This film is rated  PG-13).

Join us for The Box Trolls at Family Movie Night on Wednesday, January 21 at 4:45pm.

On Friday, January 30 2014, stop by for International Puzzle Day!  Put a puzzle together, glue and frame it!  Fun for the whole family! (Friday hours 11am-5pm)

West Elmira

Home School Group

The West Elmira Homeschool Group will meet starting Wednesday 01/21 at 10:30am (geared for ages 5-11).

Pajama Story Time

Join us starting Monday 01/26 at 6pm! Put your "jammies" on and bring Mom and Dad for stories, music and fun!

Thursday Morning Story Time

Join us starting Thursday 01/22 at 10:30am for a fun time of stories, music, and movement! Ages 18 mos to 5 years.

Kids Craft

There will be a bird feeder craft for kids on January 21st at 3:30pm (registration required).

Orphan TrainBook Clubs

Adult Book Club meets on January 15th at 3pm. Registration is appreciated! This month we are reading The Orphan Train by Christina Kline.

Young Adult Book Club meets on January 26th at 7pm. Registration is appreciated! This month we are reading Uglies by Scott Westerfeld.

Bridge Club

Join us at the West Elmira Library every Monday and Friday from 1p-3p for all types of bridge. Registration is required. Call 733-0541.

Have some old LEGOs lying around the house?  Donate them to the library! After many requests from the public, we are hoping to start a LEGO club after the New Year but we need lots of LEGOs to start our collection.  All donors will be publicly recognized on our publicity for the program.

Friends of CCLD Annual Book Sale

The 2015 Friends of CCLD Annual Book Sale begins Thursday, February 5th and ends Saturday, February 14th. The hours are 10am-8pm with hours from 10am-5pm on Sunday, February 8th. The sale will take place at the Arnot Mall in the store adjacent to Bon Ton (use the Ruby Tuesday entrance).
