Worlds AIDS Day

CCLD, together with the Chemung County AIDS Task Force, will recognize World AIDS Day on Tuesday, December 1st. The community event will begin at 5pm in Wisner Park with a candlelight vigil followed by a walk to the library for a reception. Light refreshments will be served. The event is open and free to the public. The Aids Memorial Quilt will be on display at the Steele Memorial Library from November 30th through December 5th.

Come in and use genealogy databases. Staff will be on hand to assist with research and tech questions.

TabletsLearn how to use your tablet in a casual setting, talk to other tablet users, share woes, get advice, ask questions, and more. Bring your tablet or smartphone and your questions!

Steele - Some Mondays in December, 1:00pm, by appointment, limited to 2 students per session. Get basic computer help from one of our volunteers.

Horseheads - Tuesdays in December, 7:00-7:45pm - designed to be informal question and answer sessions limited to 2 students per session.

Learn how to use the Cricut this month by signing up for one of our 4 classes.

Make a paper star decoration on Thursday, 12/3, 5-7pm or Saturday, 12/12, 1-3pm.

On Monday, 12/7, 6-7pm or Thursday, 12/17, 6-7pm, make a glitter bulb ornament. Registration is required for all sessions. Call 733-9173 to sign up.

Digital Media Lab Certification Classes

Become certified to use the Digital Media Lab - Learn about recording footage, video editing, and using a green screen to add background effects. Registration is required. Call 733-9175 to sign up.

Introduction to Sewing

Bad Art CatBad Art Night

Join us December 3rd from 6-8pm for Bad Art Night at Steele Memorial Library! Leave your talent at the door and be creative in a judgment-free zone. No art skills required! Some materials will be provided but feel free to bring your own. Registration is not required. All ages are welcome.

Friday Afternoon Film Series

On Friday, December 4th at 2pm, we will be showing It's a Wonderful Life (1946), starring James Stewart.

Card MakingCreative Card Making

On Wednesday, December 9th at 6:30pm, artist Wynn Yarrow will show tricks for paper cuts, stencils, pop-up, and 3-dimensional cards. Registration required: 733-9173.

"So bad, it's good!" Movie Night

We are showing '80s cult classic "Night of the Comet" on Friday, December 11th at 6:30pm. As always, heckling is encouraged! The library closes at 5pm but doors reopen at 6pm for moviegoers. Free popcorn! Not intended for children.

Teen Events

Teen Maker Night & Hang Out

Make a Book Safe, or hang out, play board games & wii. Light snacks provided. Tuesday, December 8th @ 6-7:30pm in Steele Library's large meeting room. REGISTER, supplies limited: 733-9173. Ages 12-18.

Teen Fandom Night: Star Wars

Star WarsTeens! Celebrate the best holiday gift ever: the new Star Wars movie! Our Fandom night is Tuesday, December 22nd @ 6-7pm. Come in costume,  enjoy trivia, games, themed snacks & win prizes!  SNEAK PEAK: In January, we celebrate BBC's Sherlock & Welcome to Night Vale!

Teen Writers Group

All teens ages 12-18, with all writing interests and levels of ability are welcome! Meet Mondays: December 7th and December 21st @ 6:30pm in Steele Library's small meeting room.  Poetry, fun writing prompts and more in a fun, informal group! Led by Dawn Fewkes, Elmira College lecturer.

Celebrate Grinchmas

Tuesday, December 15th at 4:00pm, meet the Grinch, enjoy Grinch snacks, crafts and a Grinchy performance. For all ages, registration is not required.

Minions Movie

Kick off the Winter School Break with Minions (PG) the movie - Wednesday, December 23rd at 3:00pm; snacks provided!

Gingerbread Creations

GingerbreadKids ages 4 and up - make your own Gingerbread creation on Tuesday, December 29th at 3:00pm. Everything will be provided to decorate your yummy candy house. Call 733-9174 to register.

Storytimes

The last baby storytime for this session will be Tuesday, December 15th and the last Preschool storytime will be Friday, December 18th, both at 10:30am. The Winter session will begin the week of January 18th.

Maker & LEGO Clubs

Tween Maker Club will be held Wednesday, December 2nd at 4:00pm and LEGO Club will be held Wednesday, December 9th, at 3:30pm and 4:15pm.

Movie & Popcorn Night

MinionsThe Minion movie will be shown on Tuesday, December 8th from 6-8 p.m.  Watch Kevin, Stuart and Bob as they star in their own movie.  Popcorn will be served.  Remember, the best movies and the best popcorn are at the Big Flats Library.

Visit from the Grinch

The Grinch will slink into Big Flats on Tuesday, December 15th at 6:00 p.m.  There will be a fun program, a craft, and refreshments.  Photos with the Grinch will happen too!  Will his heart grow 3 sizes?  You will have to come and see for yourself...

The NightingaleOur book club meets the first Friday of the month at our Bulkhead location at 1:30pm; this month's meeting is on December 4th. Please join us and be a part of the book discussion for The Walk series by Richard Paul Evans. This month we're reading The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah, to be discussed on January 8th.

Kitty Lit Reading Program

Join the Chemung County SPCA and some of their cats  on Wednesday, December 9th, 3:30-4:30PM, and read your favorite stories to them! Practice your reading and make the kitties happy! Open to students in grade 1 through grade 6. Call 739-4581 to register. Space is limited.
