Closings

February 15th - All CCLD locations (except Steele) are closed for Presidents Day. Steele Memorial Library is open 10am-6pm.

Love Your LibraryWe Love our Library Users!

Because CCLD appreciates you, our loyal library patrons, we are setting aside special days during the week of February 15th to thank you! Each location will have a special celebration day. Patrons can look forward to musicians and/or refreshments.

  • Tuesday, Feb 16 - Big Flats Branch will serve cookies all day.
  • Wednesday, Feb 17- Have lunch with the West Elmira Branch staff. Pizza and other snacks will be served from 12:00pm-5:00pm. Jon Manfredi will entertain patrons at Horseheads Library from 2:00-5:00pm and will serve light refreshments. Light snacks and chocolate coffee will be served to Van Etten Branch patrons from 2:00-6:00pm.
  • Thursday, Feb 18 - Bookmobile will extend their appreciation days to cover their entire 2 week schedule from February 8 - 19. Donut holes will be served on Feb 18th.
  • Friday, Feb 19 - Steele Library will offer cookies and music from John Manfredi 3:00-4:00pm as well as a special Tinker Lab activity from 3:00-4:30pm.

Every library will be giving away a library lover's gift basket. Winners will be drawn on Friday, Feb 19th. Just come in and say hello to get an entry form.

Digital Media Lab Certification Classes at Steele

Become certified to use the Digital Media Lab - Learn how to record a video, edit the video and use a green screen to add background effects. If you need a different class time, let us know. Once you have completed the certification class, you can use the Digital Media Lab at Steele independently.

February Cricut Crafts

MasksLearn to use the Cricut by signing up for one of our classes or drop in and use it independently.

This month, decorate your own Mardi Gras mask! Thursday, 2/4, 5:00PM - 7:00PM & Thursday, 2/18, 5:00PM - 7:00PM. Registration is required: 733-9175 (must be at least 13 years old).

Card Craft - Cut and decorate your own Valentine’s Day card anytime the lab is open from February 1st - 13th.

Introduction to Sewing

Thursday, 2/25, 6:30PM - 8:00PM - Learn how to thread the machine, wind a bobbin and basic sewing instructions. Registration is required: 733-9175. Must be at least 13 years old.

Hex Bit HandleFebruary 3D Print of the Month

This month's free print is an Interchangeable hex bit handle! Stop by the Tinker Lab to pick up your free print. *One free per person (additional are $0.25 each)*

Creative Ink DrawingThis month at Steele we have a variety of activities for adults including a special Creative Ink Drawing art workshop with artist Wynn Yarrow on 2/29, 6:30pm. This activity is made possible in part by the QuickARTS grant program administered by The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes and funded by the Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes, Inc. Adventure TimeTeen Fandom Night: Adventure Time

Fans and wanna-be fans! Dress up as a character if you wish. Decorate Finn cakes, eat bacon pancakes, trivia, video clips & more! Tuesday, Feb 23rd @ 6pm-7pm in the large meeting room. Register 733-9173.

Lego Robotics: SumoBot Wrestling

Scavenger Hunt

Stop in the Youth Dept. throughout the month and complete our Black History Month Scavenger Hunt...for a prize!

Reading Challenge

Also, starting February 1st pick up an Iditaread Winter Reading Challenge Card at the Youth Desk, fill it out and turn it in by March 21st for a prize!

IditareadTake Your Child to the Library Day

Saturday, February 6th is Take Your Child to the Library Day and we have the sled dogs from Smokey Hill visiting at 11:00. Come and find out what sled dogs do, hear a story about them, and even hop on a sled!

Valentine Craft

Kids ages 4 and up can stop in from 3:30-4:30 on Thurs. Feb. 11th to make and take a Valentine Craft, registration is not required.

Mid-Winter Party

We'll host a Mid-Winter Party for ages 4 and up on Wed. Feb. 17th at 3:00, join us for Winter games, crafts and fun!

GroundhogBig Flats

Groundhog Day

Celebrate Groundhog Day at Big Flats with a visit from Tanglewood Nature Center. Tanglewood will be on hand with real animals and we will learn if we are in for 6 more weeks of winter. Tuesday, Feb. 2 from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.

PJs & a Movie

Pajamas and a Movie is back on February 9th when we will show Goosebumps. This movie is rated PG. Wear your pajamas, and get ready to be scared silly. You have read all the books, now watch as they come to life. The movie will start at 6:00 sharp and as always popcorn will be served. Remember, the best movies and the best popcorn are at the Big Flats Library.

Wii Bowling

The last Tuesday of every month is Wii Bowling. Come and enjoy a fun night of bowling without all the cost. Come as a family, a team, or just by yourself for fun and exercise. The fun starts at 6:00 p.m.

The Glass CastleBook Club

Our book club meets the first Friday of the month at our Bulkhead location at 1:30pm. This month we're discussing Me Before You by JoJo Moyes on February 5th. We're reading The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls to be discussed at next month's meeting.

Garden Workshop: Proper Fruit Tree Pruning

Aromatherapy 101

AromatherapySaturday, February 27th, 1:00 - 4:00 PM - Are you interested in learning about Aromatherapy? Take a class with Kash Iraggi-Wiggins, certified Aromatherapist and owner and operator of Balance Aromatherapy! Learn the why and how of basic Essential Oil use. Kitty LitJoin the Chemung County SPCA and some of their cats on February 10th, 3:30-4:30PM, and read your favorite stories to them! Practice your reading and make the kitties very happy! Tween Maker Hour

There will be a frame decorating craft for tweens on February 17th at 3:30pm (registration required).  

Family Fun Night

Two Mondays every month we will have a special Family Movie and Family Maker night. Starts at 6:30pm and registration is required for the craft.

In the Margins Bookclub - Pick any book you'd like from our bookclub bookshelf and as you are reading it, feel free to jot down any notes or thoughts you may have in the margin. Underline your favorite lines, circle your favorite pages, and write a note for the next reader! After you are finished, bring the book back and choose your next bookclub book!

*New Program*- Adult Coloring Group

Art therapy at the library the last Monday of each month from 5p-8p. Adults and older teens can come in anytime during the evening to relax and color their stress away.

Adult Maker Series

Visit us one Monday each month at 6:30pm for our special "Going Green" craft series for adults. Registration is required.

This year's sale will take place from February 4th-13th at the Arnot Mall, in a store adjacent to Bon Ton (use the Ruby Tuesday entrance). Sale hours are 10am-8pm except Sunday, February 7th, 10am-5pm. Bag sale day is Saturday, February 13th. For updates, visit the Friends of CCLD Facebook page.
