Friends of CCLD Books Sandwiched In

The Friends of the Chemung County Library District presents Books Sandwiched In! Please find dates, books & reviewer listings at ccld.lib.ny.us/friends.htm. All reviews are held Fridays from 12:00 - 1:00 PM, are free and open to the public, and take place in the Steele Memorial Library auditorium. A light sandwich lunch may be purchased for $3.50 or you may bring your own. If schools are closed due to inclement weather, the book review will be rescheduled. Technology Training at CCLD Libraries

Tech Training Lab

All classes are free and registration is required. To register for Steele classes call 733-9175; for Horseheads classes call 739-4581; for Van Etten classes call 589-4755 x3. All Steele classes take place in the Technology Training Lab.

Digital Media Lab Certification Classes at Steele

Become certified to use the Digital Media Lab - Learn how to record a video, edit the video and use a green screen to add background effects. If you need a different class time, let us know. You must have a parent present if you are under 16. Once you have completed the certification class, you can use the Digital Media Lab at Steele independently.

Steele - Mondays, by appointment, limited to 2 students per session.

Tinker Lab @ Steele

Print of the MonthStop by the Tinker Lab to take a class or use the lab equipment independently anytime the lab is open. While you're here, pick up the free 3D print of the month, a shamrock keychain (one free print per person; additional keychains are $0.25 each).

Book of ColorThis month at Steele we have a variety of activities for adults including a special Book of Color art workshop with artist Wynn Yarrow on 3/14, 6:30pm. This activity is made possible in part by the QuickARTS grant program administered by The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes and funded by the Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes, Inc. Teen Events @ Steele (12-18 yrs)

Celebrate Youth Art Month with a Teen Art Scavenger Hunt. Teens can win candy when they complete the art scavenger hunt at Steele Library during March 2016 (pick up scavenger hunt sheets at the youth or adult services desks). Artwork by area teens will be displayed throughout the library. Find the art in the library and return the completed sheet for a candy bar!

Teen Tech Week is March 6-12! Sign up for Stop Motion Animation, Karaoke & Video Night, and other awesome teen events! Call 733-9173.

March is National Youth Art Month and to celebrate, artwork from local schools will be on display throughout Steele Library courtesy of The Arts Council of the Southern Finger Lakes. We will also offer an Art Club for ages 9 and up this month.

Big Flats

Fairy HouseOn March 1st and 15th, Miss Becky is having a Fairy House construction program. Please note that this is a 2-part program and participants must be present for both parts. Registration is required: (607)562-3300. All materials provided.

March 25th is the date for the 3rd annual Easter Egg Hunt! The egg hunt will start at 3pm and there will be a visit from the Easter Bunny. There will be prizes in special eggs and candy for everyone. Come and enjoy the fun! Please register your child so that we can make sure the Easter Bunny drops off enough eggs and candy.

All the light we cannot seeOur book club meets the first Friday of the month at our Bulkhead location at 1:30pm; this month's meeting is on March 4th. Please join us and be a part of the book discussion for The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls. We're reading All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr for April's discussion.

Bookmobile will be at Book Fest on March 5th 10-2 with fun activities and games. We will also be participating in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 12th at 2pm; come give us a big wave and shout as we drive by. Later this month, join us for a St. Patrick’s Day craft at the Southside Community Center on March 18th at 3pm.

Easter BunnyThis month Horseheads Youth Department has a variety of spring activities for children and teens.  On Saturday the 26th the Easter Bunny is going to visit! Get your picture taken with the Easter Bunny and craft a photo frame.

Read Across AmericaVan Etten Library will have a table at this year's Spencer-Van Etten Community Showcase at the SVE High School on March 6th from 1-4pm. Also, be sure to stop by the Van Etten Library the week of March 21-25 for a fun Egg Hunt! Search the library shelves for special eggs and win a prize!

This month we are showing The Good Dinosaur and making a fossil craft for our family fun nights. Tween makers will be painting magnets with toothpicks and Adult makers will be making their own pot scrubbers. The Easter Egg Hunt is for children ages 5-12 with registration required.
