World AIDS Day

CCLD, together with the Chemung County AIDS Task Force, will recognize World AIDS Day on Thursday, December 1st. The community event will begin at Wisner Park at 5:30pm with a candlelight vigil followed by a walk to the Steele Memorial Library for a reception. Light refreshments will be served. The event is open and free to the public. The Aids Memorial Quilt will be on display at the Steele Memorial Library from November 28th through December 3rd.

Technology Training at CCLD Libraries

Tech Training Lab

All classes are free and registration is required. To register for Steele classes call 733-9175; for Horseheads classes call 739-4581; for Van Etten classes call 589-4755 x3. All Steele classes take place in the Technology Training Lab.

Makerspace Certification Classes

To schedule a training session for one of our certification classes (see below), please call 607-733-6809 during the Tinker Lab's open hours, or E-mail us at: labcentral@stls.org.

Digital Media Lab Certification at Steele

Become certified to use the Digital Media Lab - Learn how to record a video, edit the video and use a green screen to add background effects. You must have a parent present if you are under 16. Once you have completed the certification class, you can use the Digital Media Lab at Steele independently.

3D Printer Certification at Steele

Become certified in the use of the 3D printers at the Steele Memorial Library MakerSpace. Learn how to change filament in the printers, navigate the display menus, and utilize the slicer software for optimizing your 3D prints. Completion of the certification process will allow you to use the 3D printers independently. Anyone under the age of 16 will be supervised in the use of the 3D printer.

Stop by the Tinker Lab to take a class or use the lab equipment independently anytime the lab is open.

Winter Tinker Lab Hours

Monday - Thursday: 3:30PM - 7:30PM
Friday: 12:00AM - 4:00PM
Saturday: 10:00AM - 2:00PM

*Button making now available in the Tinker Lab
Patrons can now make custom buttons at the Tinker Lab. The cost per button will be $0.15.

*Hour of Code and Video Game Design classes are now being offered!

*3D Printer certification and Digital Media Lab Certification sessions can now be made by appointment!
We will now be offering certification sessions to anyone interested in being able to use the Digital Media Lab or the 3D printer independently. See the Certification Classes section below for more information.

*Weekly crafts are available!
Each week the Tinker Lab will be offering a new craft or STREAM project for patrons to stop in and try out. Materials and instructions will be set out on the tables for anyone interested.

Adult Events @ Steele (teens welcome)

Acrylic Pineapple PaintingJoin local painter Filomena Jack in a fun, no pressure painting class. In this 90 minute class you'll play with color options, brush strokes, and even your fingers to create abstract funky pineapples. New and experienced painters welcomed! All supplies will be provided.  This workshop is limited to 10 students so registration is required:  (607)733-9175.  Intended for adults and teens.

Big Flats

Secret Life of PetsThe movie and popcorn night for December will be held on December 6 from 6-7:30p.m. and we will be enjoying The Secret Life of Pets.  Did you ever wonder what your pets do when you are not at home? The movie will give you all the answers.   Popcorn will be served.  The best movies and the best popcorn are at the Big Flats Library.

Get ready for the Christmas season with Cris Johnson.  On Tuesday, December 13, at 6:00 p.m. magician Cris Johnson will entertain us with a very special Christmas Magic show.  There is a special magical surprise during his show that will amaze us all.  WE hope that you will join us and get ready for the magic that is the Christmas season.

Calling Me HomeBookmobile Book Discussion Club

The Bookmobile Book Club meets every 2nd Friday of the month at the Bulkhead stop in Southport at 1:30pm. Due to our CCLD Continuing Ed day, the December discussion will be held on Dec 2nd. The group will be discussing Calling me Home by, Julie Kibler. In January, the book to be discussed will be Language of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh.
