Closings - All CCLD locations except Steele are closed for Presidents Day on February 20th. Steele will be open from 10am-6pm.

Patron Appreciation Week - We Love our Library Users!

Patron Appreciation WeekBecause we appreciate our loyal patrons, we are setting aside a special time during the week of February 13-17, 2017 to thank you.  One lucky library user will win a Library Lovers Basket at each CCLD location.  Visit your favorite library or all of them for a chance to win!

Monday, February 13  - West Elmira Branch - Snacks will be available throughout the day with a sit down pizza dinner & a show from 5:00-7:00pm.  There will be special door prizes and an extra entry in to the Book Lovers Basket for those who attend.

Tuesday, February 14 - Big Flats Branch - refreshments served all day from 12:00-8:00pm.

Tuesday, February 14 - Steele Memorial Library - 2:00-4:00 refreshments, music, button making and coloring activities. Come and tell us why you love your library!

Wednesday, February 15 - Horseheads Library  - music by John Manfredi, from 2:00- 5:00pm with light refreshments.  

Wednesday, February 15 - Van Etten Branch - enjoy coffee, tea, hot chocolate & sweet treats from 2:00-6:00pm.    

In order for the Bookmobile to reach all their patrons, Kim will hold Patron Appreciation from February 6-17.  Visiting school children will play the M&M game & receive stickers. Cookies will be served at the stops on Thursday, February 16.

Library Lover Baskets will be on display all week. The drawings will be held on Friday, February 17 at 5:00pm.

Our 4th annual "making" event will be held at the Arnot Mall on March 25th, 10am-3pm. This year we are excited to announce that we are an official Mini Maker Faire and have a new event partner, SUNY Corning Community College. If you are interested in participating in the Faire as an exhibitor or speaker, please visit our new Maker Faire website and complete the Call for Makers application. http://twintiers.makerfaire.com/

All classes are free and registration is required for most. To register for Steele classes call 733-9175; for Horseheads classes call 739-4581; for Van Etten classes call 589-4755 x3. Registration is not required for the West Elmira classes. All Steele classes take place in the Technology Training Lab.

Makerspace Certification Classes

To schedule a training session for one of our certification classes (see below), please call 607-733-6809 during the Tinker Lab's open hours, or E-mail us at: labcentral@stls.org.

Digital Media Lab Certification at Steele

Become certified to use the Digital Media Lab. You must have a parent present if you are under 16. Once you have completed the certification class, you can use the Digital Media Lab at Steele independently.

3D Printer Certification at Steele

Become certified in the use of the 3D printers at the Steele Memorial Library MakerSpace. Completion of the certification process will allow you to use the 3D printers independently. Anyone under the age of 16 will be supervised in the use of the 3D printer.

Tinker Lab @ Steele

Stop by the Tinker Lab to take a class or use the lab equipment independently anytime the lab is open

*Power Tool Drag Race Workshops are starting in March!
We will be having two workshops to help interested makers build a power tool racer for the Twin Tiers Maker Faire on March 25th. The Workshops will be held:

  • Wednesday, March 8th from 6:00pm - 8:00pm
  • Saturday, March 11th from 11:00am - 1:00pm

*Button making now available in the Tinker Lab!
Patrons can now make custom buttons at the Tinker Lab. The cost per button will be $0.15.

*Weekly crafts are available!
Each week the Tinker Lab will be offering a new craft for patrons to stop in and make. Materials and instructions will be set out on the tables for anyone interested.

Art Journey 2017: Workshops in the fine arts for the armchair adventurer, with Wynn Yarrow continues at Steele Memorial Library.

Road Map

This month's class, Road Map: Creative Mapmaking will take place on February 22nd at 6:30pm. Please register by calling (607)733-9175. This class is open to adults and teens and focuses on visualization, drawing, and writing.

This project is made possible, in part, with public funds from NYSCA's Decentralization Program, administered regionally by The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes.

Our Needlepoint series will begin on February 14th at 2pm in the tech lab at Steele Memorial Library. There is a $15 fee for this 9 week series, due to the high cost of materials.

Blind Date with a Book:  Check out (literally!) our Blind Date with a Book display for all lovers of YA literature. Don't open your dates until after you check them out and get them home. Our Teen Life workshop series begins with a College cost cutting workshop, and later on in the month, a Relationships 101 Jeopardy experience led by Trinity of Chemung County.

Big Flats

StorksMovie and popcorn night returns on February 21, 6pm! This month's feature is STORKS. This movie is rated PG and as always popcorn will be served. The best movies and the best popcorn are at the Big Flats Library.

On February 28, 6pm, join the Big Flats staff as we venture into the world of card making. Using stamps, gel pens, colored pencils and more to create just the card you want to give a friend or a loved one. You must register for this class due to space. Stop in, call 562-3300 or email peelg@stls.org and we will sign you up. Class runs from 6:00 - 7:00 P.M.
