Summer Reading Club & Concert Series

Build a Better World

We have a lot of fun activities for all ages planned for you this summer! Summer Reading Club for kids, teens, and adults starts on Monday, June 26th. This year's reading club theme is "Build a Better World". As in previous years, each branch will host a variety of activities in the months of July and August and weekly prizes will be awarded. Starting June 26th, reading club registration will be available online via the CCLD website by branch and age group. For more information, contact your local library.

CCLD Friends Summer Concerts will take place Tuesdays at 7:00pm from July 11 to Aug 8, at Steele Memorial Library under the Promenade or in the library if it rains.

All classes are free and registration is required for most. To register for Steele classes call 733-9175; for Horseheads classes call 739-4581; for Van Etten classes call 589-4755 x3. All Steele classes take place in the Technology Training Lab.

Makerspace Certification Classes

To schedule a training session for one of our certification classes (see below), please call 607-733-8609 during the Tinker Lab's open hours, or E-mail us at: labcentral@stls.org.

Digital Media Lab Certification at Steele

Become certified to use the Digital Media Lab. You must have a parent present if you are under 16. Once you have completed the certification class, you can use the Digital Media Lab at Steele independently.

3D Printer Certification at Steele

Become certified in the use of the 3D printers at the Steele Memorial Library MakerSpace. Completion of the certification process will allow you to use the 3D printers independently. Anyone under the age of 16 will be supervised in the use of the 3D printer.

Stop by the Tinker Lab to take a class or use the lab equipment independently anytime the lab is open.

*We are now accepting registrations for the 2017 Summer Maker Camp! The camp is for ages 8 - 12 and runs from Monday, July 31st - Friday, August 4th. Summer Reading Club registration will be available on June 26th. Weekly prizes will be awarded to patrons that log in to enter the number of books that they have read via the CCLD website.

WatercolorOur Art Journey 2017 series, with artist Wynn Yarrow, continues on June 12th, 6:30pm with "Snapshots & Selfies", a watercolor art workshop. Paint a watercolor background and put yourself in the picture with a cut paper silhouette.  Learn to let watercolor work for you: how to get the soft mixed color blooms; using color to create a sense of depth; and how to look and cut without drawing first.

Open to adults and teens. Registration is required: 733-9175.

This project is made possible, in part, with public funds from NYSCA’s Decentralization Program, administered regionally by The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes.

Teen Events @ Steele (12-18 yrs)

UnicornTeen Open Mic Night is on Tuesday, June 13th at 6:30pm. Sing, do magic tricks, tell jokes, show your artwork, play instruments, and share your talents. Snacks will be provided!  On June 27th we will have Unicorn Night!  Make mini-unicorn smoothies, crafts, and possibly unicorn "horn" jousts with pool noodle "horns." Summer Reading sign ups begin! Call 733-9175 to register so we have enough smoothie ingredients.

Big Flats

Big Flats will be focusing on setting up a great Summer Reading Club and therefore, no programs are scheduled for June until the kickoff for the Summer Reading Club, "Build a Better World", on June 27 at 6pm.  We hope that you will come and sign up for a summer of great programs and fun reading.  There will be representatives from other libraries here doing different crafts for a great kick off evening.

Bookmobile

HarmonyThe Bookmobile will be at the "Old McDonald Farm" at the Chemung County Fairgrounds on June 3rd from 10-3. We will have animal coloring pages and some trivia questions.

In June at Horseheads, we continue this year's Garden Series classes with Jabe Warren, Horticultural Educator. This month our class is: Garden Disease!  We are continuing a four week T'ai Chi class series beginning Monday, June 5. Also, sign up to learn all about your tablet or smartphone!

TanglewoodThis year the Van Etten Library is kicking off our 6 week Summer Reading Club Program with a special visit from Tanglewood Nature Center!  Which animals are going to Visit?  An owl?  A groundhog?  A turtle?  Or maybe... a creepy snake! Join us and learn about these rescued animals and their habitats! Celebrate the end of the school year!

Also, be sure to stop in the Van Etten Library and create something for Dad, Grandpa, or someone else special on June 12, 14, and 16!
