Friends Summer Concert Series

Friends LogoOur annual CCLD Friends Summer Concert Series gets underway in July on the Elmira Promenade, outside the Steele Memorial Library - RAIN or SHINE. Concerts will begin at 7:00pm and are free and open to all ages.

Featured performers are:

  • July 11 - Top Shelf with Anita Lewis

  • July 18 - Marc Berger Quartet

  • July 25 - The Hepcats--Big Band Dance Music

  • August 1 - Little Joe & the Bigshots (Destination Light)

  • August 8 - Pat Kane & West O'Clare
Bring your family, friends and comfortable chairs. If it rains, concerts will be held in the library.

These concerts are made possible through a generous contribution from the Friends of the Chemung County Library District.

Technology Training at CCLD Libraries

Tech Training Lab

All classes are free and registration is required. To register for Steele classes call 733-9175; for Horseheads classes call 739-4581; for Van Etten classes call 589-4755 x3. All Steele classes take place in the Technology Training Lab.

Steele - Mondays, by appointment, limited to 2 students per session.

Makerspace Certification Classes

3D Printer

To schedule a training session for one of our certification classes (see below), please call 607-733-8609 during the Tinker Lab's open hours, or E-mail us at: labcentral@stls.org.

Digital Media Lab Certification at Steele

Become certified to use the Digital Media Lab. You must have a parent present if you are under 16. Once you have completed the certification class, you can use the Digital Media Lab at Steele independently.

3D Printer Certification at Steele

Become certified in the use of the 3D printers at the Steele Memorial Library MakerSpace. Completion of the certification process will allow you to use the 3D printers independently. Anyone under the age of 16 will be supervised in the use of the 3D printer.

Tinker Lab @ Steele

Stop by the Tinker Lab to take a class or use the lab equipment independently anytime the lab is open.

Monday - Thursday: 2:30PM - 7:30PM
Friday: 12:00PM - 4:00PM
Saturday: Closed

Print of the Month*We are now accepting registrations for the 2017 Summer Maker Camp! The camp is for ages 8 - 12 and runs from Monday, July 31st - Friday, August 4th. Registration forms are available at the Reference Desk at Steele Memorial Library. For more information please call (607)733-9175 or visit the Steele Memorial Library Makerspace.

Adult Events @ Steele

Adults can participate in Summer Reading Club too! Sign up for Steele's Adult Summer Reading Club and be entered into weekly prize drawings and a grand prize drawing for a Fire HD8 tablet! Sign up on our website: http://ccld.lib.ny.us/src/

BunniesWe have two art workshops coming up this month! The first is an acrylic (bunnies) painting workshop, led by artist Filomena Jack, on Friday, July 7th at 2pm.

The second class will be led by artist Wynn Yarrow and will take place Monday, July 10, 6:30pm. Use air-dried clay to create a unique sculpture of a roadside attraction or fun and funky building. Bring a small box to transport work home safely.

Both workshops are intended for adults and teens! Registration is required; call 733-9175 to sign up.

This project is made possible, in part, with public funds from NYSCA's Decentralization Program, administered regionally by The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes.

Report the minutes or hours you spend reading each week on our teen summer reading website (ccld.lib.ny.us/src), OR in person when you check out books, comics, magazines or audiobooks. At checkout, you will get a scratch off prize ticket. Prizes are: gift cards, movie tickets, free smoothies, paddleboat ride tickets at Eldridge Park, books, candy, and more! Come to any teen library event for more entries in the Tablet drawing.

Big Flats

Story HourThe Summer Reading Club will be in full swing during the month of July.  Every Tuesday evening in July (except July 4) the Big Flats Library will host a different performer to keep you entertained and reading. Call the Big Flats Library, or stop in, for the schedule of performers that are going to be on hand.  All programs will be held 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.

Wednesday mornings in July will be the place to be for a summer  preschool storyhour.  Miss Glen will be on hand to share stories, songs and dances.  Suggested ages are 3-5, although that is not a mandatory age range.  We hope to see you at the library.

Bookmobile

We would like to wish all our little patrons best wishes and they will be progressing to a higher grade. Please remember to visit your local library branch and continue to read over the summer!

Shamanic Healing

In July at Horseheads, We are excited to present a two- part workshop on Shamanic healing, with Kathy Holton of The Healing & Learning Center! We also continue our Feldenkrais series focusing on The Mystery of Pain - How, Why, What, When. Come to our Living Foods workshop and learn the difference between raw and living foods, & enjoy a buffet of gourmet delicacies! Also, sign up to learn all about your tablet or smartphone!

AirigamiSummer Reading Club kicks off on June 28th and continues through August 4th.  Sign up online or at the library.  Stop by the library to get your reading logs and a grab bag full of summer goodies.  Stop by weekly to log your minutes and register to win prizes.  Each week you log minutes earns you a ballot for your choice of a gift basket; meet your reading goal and get entered in the grand prize drawing. Write and post book reviews for a chance to win a Barnes and Noble's Gift card, or attend programs and performances. Don't forget to read, read, read!

Build a Better World

Our 6 week Summer Reading Club began Monday, June 26! Make sure to sign up online and register your reading for a chance to win a prize.  Weekly prizes for Adult and Youth readers! Kids, make sure you log your reading each week for a special prize and an exclusive invite to our Final Reading Club Party at Eldridge Park!

West Elmira now carries a small selection of Music CDs.  We have also started a Puzzle Exchange.  Come in and take a puzzle or two, or donate some you've already completed!

Also new, Walking Club!  Join us Wednesdays at 10am for a 2 mile (approx.) walk at your own pace.  We will leave the library no later than 10:10am.  Bottles of water provided.
