Technology Training at CCLD Libraries

Tech Training Lab

All classes are free and registration is required. To register for Steele classes call 733-9175; for Horseheads classes call 739-4581; for Van Etten classes call 589-4755 x3. All Steele classes take place in the Technology Training Lab.

Makerspace Certification Classes

3D Printer

To schedule a training session for one of our certification classes (see below), please call 607-733-8609 during the Tinker Lab's open hours, or E-mail us at: labcentral@stls.org.

Digital Media Lab Certification at Steele

Become certified to use the Digital Media Lab. You must have a parent present if you are under 16. Once you have completed the certification class, you can use the Digital Media Lab at Steele independently.

3D Printer Certification at Steele

Become certified in the use of the 3D printers at the Steele Memorial Library MakerSpace. Completion of the certification process will allow you to use the 3D printers independently. Anyone under the age of 16 will be supervised in the use of the 3D printer.

Stop by the Tinker Lab to take a class or use the lab equipment independently anytime the lab is open.

Adult Events @ Steele

Recipe BookJoin us for our final Art Journey 2017 class with Wynn Yarrow on Thursday, December 7th at 6:30pm. We will be making a hand bound recipe book with recipes from the group. This class is open to adults and teens. Registration is required: 733-9175. Please pick up a recipe sheet on the 2nd floor and return it to the library by 12/4, to have your recipe included in the finished product.

On Monday, December 11th at 6:30pm we will be having our Art Journey 2017 Art Reception, to display artwork created by our patrons during art classes with Wynn Yarrow this year. There will be a class slide show, music by Stuart Finch, and complimentary snacks. Please come and bring your friends and family.

If you choose to display your original art (and we hope that you do!) please bring one example from Art Journey classes with Wynn Yarrow to Steele Library (2nd floor desk) no later than Thursday, December 7. These will be included in the glass library cases. On December 11, you may bring any and every art you created for Art Journey, to display at the event.

This project is made possible, in part, with public funds from NYSCA’s Decentralization Program, administered regionally by The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes.

Teen Events @ Steele (12-18 yrs)

New in December: "Talking Talking Through WallsThrough Walls", a teen requested and teen led program where teens can discuss controversial topics, current events, or other subjects weighing on their minds. This will be a safe space to hear other teens’ views, demonstrate respect, and cultivate an open mind. Possible Initial topics for discussion: gun control, kneeling for the flag, etc. Snacks will be available.

Ugly SweaterThis month at Steele we invite kids of all ages to celebrate Christmahanukwanzakah and the winter season. We will offer winter themed crafts on Monday nights. On Wednesday December 20th join us for an Ugly Sweater Party.   Bring your own sweater or use one of ours (while supplies last) to craft a sweater, the uglier the better!

Big Flats

The Big Flats Library has a few fun happenings for the month of December.  We reach for the stars and hug polar bears.  If that sounds like a great time to you, finish reading below.

AstronomyTuesday, December 5, we will host an astronomy program where you will learn about the night sky, how to find constellations, and more.  Deborah Dann from Corning Community College will be on hand to talk about the stars and answer your questions.  This program is being held in conjunction with the Soaring Museum and Corning Community College.  This is the first part of a three part series.  The talk will start at 6:00 p.m.

On Tuesday, December 12, from 6-7:00 p.m. the library will host a Christmas storytime and at the end of the program, we will make a stuffed polar bear. Pre-Registration is required due to space limitations.  Call 562-3300 to get added to the list now!

Leaving Blythe RiverOur book club usually meets the 2nd Friday of the month at the Bulkhead stop in Southport at 1:30pm.  This month’s discussion will take place on December 1 (the libraries are closed on December 8 for staff training).  We will be discussing "Leaving Blythe River" by Catherine Ryan Hyde.  For December, we will read "Good as Gone" by Amy Gentry to discuss in January.
