Twin Tiers Mini Maker Faire - April 14, 10am-3pm

Twin Tiers Mini Maker Faire

Our annual Maker Faire will take place on Saturday, April 14th, 10am-3pm at the Arnot Mall in Horseheads, NY. The event is free and open to all ages. Join us for free hands-on activities, demonstrations, and performances.

If you're interested in demonstrating your own creative talents at our event, our call for makers is open until March 16th. We are calling all makers, innovators, crafters, and tinkerers to join us in inspiring the community through making and Do-It-Yourself projects. Apply by filling out the Call for Makers form on the website. The event is free to participate in but sales are not allowed during the event. http://twintiers.makerfaire.com

Our annual Power Tool Drag Race will take place during the Maker Faire at 12pm in Center Court at the Mall. If you are interested in entering the race, be sure to register online (free to participate). Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 racers. Not sure where to begin? Attend a free workshop at Southeast Steuben County Library on March 10th at 12pm and learn how to make your own power tool racer.

Technology Training at CCLD Libraries

Tech Training Lab

All classes are free and registration is required. To register for Steele classes call 733-9175; for Horseheads classes call 739-4581; for Van Etten classes call 589-4755 x3. All Steele classes take place in the Technology Training Lab.

Makerspace Certification Classes

3D Printer

To schedule a training session for one of our certification classes (see below), please call 607-733-6809 during the Tinker Lab's open hours, or E-mail us at: labcentral@stls.org.

Digital Media Lab Certification at Steele

Become certified to use the Digital Media Lab - Learn how to record a video, edit the video and use a green screen to add background effects. You must have a parent present if you are under 16. Once you have completed the certification class, you can use the Digital Media Lab at Steele independently.

3D Printer Certification at Steele

Become certified in the use of the 3D printers at the Steele Memorial Library Makerspace. Learn how to change filament in the printers, navigate the display menus, and utilize the slicer software for optimizing your 3D prints. Completion of the certification process will allow you to use the 3D printers independently. Anyone under the age of 16 will be supervised in the use of the 3D printer.

Tinker Lab @ Steele

Stop by the Tinker Lab to take a class or use the lab equipment independently anytime the lab is open.

Steele Memorial

Adult Events @ Steele

Ice CreamJoin us for three art classes this month at Steele Memorial Library!

There will be two classes with artist Wynn Yarrow (part of the Hometown Art series, funded by a Community Arts Grant) focusing on drawing and design. The first will be on March 8th, 6:30pm, inspired by local Victorian Architecture; the second will be on March 22, 6:30pm, inspired by artifacts from the Chemung Valley History Museum.

On March 16th, 2pm there will be an acrylic painting and collage class with artist Filomena Jack. We'll rip paper, use acrylic paints, and create a 3 scoop ice cream cone on paper.

Chemung Youth BureauThis month, we have a 2-part Job Hunting workshop series for teens! Laura Kinney, from the Chemung County Youth Bureau’s youth employment program will help teens prepare for the summer job hunt with tips on finding, applying, and interviewing for jobs.

Big Flats

FerdinandAnother Movie and Popcorn night is coming on March 13th.  We will enjoy the movie Ferdinand on the giant 12 foot screen. The movie will start at 6:00 p.m. and as always popcorn will be served.

On Tuesday, March 27 at 6:00 p.m. Big Flats Library will have an Easter storyhour and a stuffed animal making workshop.  This is like Build-A-Bear only you come to the library to bring your animal to life. This time we will be making a cute lamb, just in time for Easter. Registration is a must and class size is limited. Please call 562-3300 to reserve your spot.

Friday, March 30 is the 4th annual Easter Eggs-travaganza! There will be an egg hunt, prizes, and a visit from the Easter Bunny! Pictures will be available for a small charge. Please call to register; there is no limit on the amount of children that may participate, we just want to make sure that we have enough for everyone. The fun starts at 3:00 p.m. If there is no snow or rain, the hunt will be outside, but it may be muddy on the lawn.  Please dress appropriately.

The HeirsMarch 3rd is Book Fest at Diven School 10-2pm; come see the bookmobile for a scavenger hunt and win a prize.

March 10th the bookmobile will be in the Horseheads St. Patrick's day parade at 2pm. Come out and enjoy some St. Patrick's day fun and wave to the bookmobile as we make our way by.

Our book club meets the 2nd Friday of the month at the Bulkhead stop in Southport at 1:30pm.  We will discuss "The Heirs" by Susan Rieger on March 9th.  Next month's discussion will be about "The Couple next door" by Shari Lapena.

BulbsIn March, we begin a series of four gardening classes led by horticultural educator Jabe Warren. Also, new seeds for our seed library are arriving by the second week of March! Come on in and check out some seeds for this year's garden!  Don't forget to sign up to learn all about your tablet or smartphone! Registration is required for all programs. Dr. Seuss

To celebrate March Madness and Dr. Seuss's birthday, come in and vote for your favorite Seuss books. We are pitting Classic Seuss Books against Beginner Seuss Books. The winner in each match-up will move on to the next round until we have a winner. Make sure you come in each week to vote! Everyone that participates will be entered in a drawing to win a copy of the winning book.  On March 29th, stop by and have your picture taken with the Easter Bunny. We will also have a story, an Easter egg hunt and a craft.
