National Library Card Sign-up Month

Library Card Sign-up month collectible card

September is National Library Card Sign-up Month! Stop in to any Chemung County Library during the month of September for your chance to win a prize! Every time you check out this month, you will receive a scratch off where you could win: money off your fines, CCLD merchandise, reading log books, buttons, candy, bookmarks, and more!

New this year is our collectible library card! Stop in to any CCLD library and purchase one of our Limited Time CCLD cards while supplies last. Made by our very own Steve, one of CCLD's Makerspace staff, this card was inspired by J.M. Barrie's beloved classic, Peter Pan. Cards are $1 for existing members and FREE for new members.

Two Friends Book Sales this month!

Both the Friends of the Horseheads Free Library and the Friends of CCLD have book sales this month!

The Friends of the Horseheads Free Library has scheduled its annual book sale for September 11-15 at the Town and Country Fire Hall on Gardner Road in Horseheads. Hours are 10am to 7pm on Tuesday 9/11, Wednesday 9/12, and Thursday 9/13; Friday, 9/14 from 10am - 5pm and Saturday, 9/15 from 10am to 1pm. There will be a bag sale ($3 per bag) on the final two days of the sale.

The Friends of CCLD book sale will take place September 20-29 from 10am-6pm at the Elmira Eastowne Mall. Use the Lake Street entrance at 161 Lake St. in Elmira, across from Five Star Bank. There will be a bag sale ($5 per bag) on Saturday, September 29th.

Makerspace Certification Classes

3D Printer

To schedule a training session for one of our certification classes (see below), please call 607-733-6809 during the Tinker Lab's open hours, or E-mail us at: labcentral@stls.org.

Digital Media Lab Certification at Steele

Become certified to use the Digital Media Lab - Learn how to record a video, edit the video and use a green screen to add background effects. You must have a parent present if you are under 16. Once you have completed the certification class, you can use the Digital Media Lab at Steele independently.

3D Printer Certification at Steele

Become certified in the use of the 3D printers at the Steele Memorial Library Makerspace. Learn how to change filament in the printers, navigate the display menus, and utilize the slicer software for optimizing your 3D prints. Completion of the certification process will allow you to use the 3D printers independently. Anyone under the age of 16 will be supervised in the use of the 3D printer.

Stop by the Tinker Lab to take a class or use the lab equipment independently anytime the lab is open.

Big Flats

Wine Glass PaintingIt's time for back to school and that means that summer is over. Thank you to everyone for helping Big Flats Library have another successful Summer Reading Club. Regular and special programs are back at Big Flats!

On Tuesday, September 18, 6:00pm, Big Flats Library will host a wine glass painting progam for adults. All materials will be provided. You will need to pre-register for this event since we are limited by size. First 24 to sign up get the seats.

Wednesday, September 19, 10:30am story hours start back up. Come and enjoy stories, music, games, and much more with Miss Melanie. Suggested ages are 2 - 5 years old.  No registration is required.

Watch Me DisappearThis month we will be welcoming all the children back and the start of story time for the school year.

Our book club meets the 2nd Friday of the month at the Bulkhead stop in Southport at 1:30pm.

For the month of August we read "Watch Me Disappear" by Janelle Brown; the book discussion will be September 14th. Next month's discussion will be "Flight of the Sparrow" by Amy Brown.
