Summer Reading Club

Summer Reading Club

We have a lot of fun activities for all ages planned for you this summer! Summer Reading Club for kids, teens, and adults starts on Monday, June 24th. This year's reading club theme is "A Universe of Stories". As in previous years, each branch will host a variety of activities in the months of July and August and weekly prizes will be awarded. Starting June 24th, reading club registration will be available online via the CCLD website. For more information, contact your local library.

Technology Training at CCLD Libraries

Tech Training Lab

All classes are free and registration is required. To register for Steele classes call 733-9175; for Horseheads classes call 739-4581; for Van Etten classes call 589-4755 x3. All Steele classes take place in the Technology Training Lab.

Makerspace News

Maker Summer Camp

Registration for our 4th annual Summer Maker Camp has begun. To register call or visit the Steele Memorial Library reference desk. A registration fee of $20.00 secures your child's spot in camp for the week.

Camp takes place August 5 - 9, 2019
Monday - Thursday: 2:00pm - 5:00pm
Friday: 2:00pm - 4:00pm

Reserve the Laser Engraver

Use of the Tinker Lab's laser engraver may now be reserved online: https://ccldmakerspace.youcanbook.me/

Drop in appointments are still accepted.

Tinker Lab Hours

Stop by the Tinker Lab to take a class or use the lab equipment independently anytime the lab is open.

Monday - Thursday: 12:00pm - 3:00pm, 4:00pm - 7:30pm
Friday: 12:00pm - 4:00pm

Elmira Ukulele SocietySteele Memorial

Elmira Ukulele Society

Join our informal meetup of ukulele players on Tuesday, June 4th, 5-6pm. All abilities welcome (from beginner to advanced). All ages welcome but children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.

We will be learning a song in a group setting. We encourage advanced players to help the person next to them!

Everyone must have a ukulele (Note: some ukuleles for kids are toys and are not able to be tuned. Be sure to bring an actual instrument). A limited number of ukuleles are available at Steele for check out to STLS cardholders in good standing.

Teen Events @ Steele (12-18 yrs)

June is full of exams! The new Teen Space at Steele Library is here to support your teens with special study, stress relief time, & snacks during our "Finals Cafe" on select days throughout June. Summer Learning Fun programs start the last week of school with art, gaming, and more. Sign your teens up and they can win prizes for reading ANYTHING they want. Gain entries by coming to teen events, or checking out any reading materials, including audio books.

Princess Daddy

Daddy dress-up! Father's Day is a celebration honoring fathers and celebrating fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in society. The nation's first Father's Day was celebrated on June 19, 1910, in the state of Washington.

On June 13th at 5:00pm "Princess Daddy Day!" returns. Children of all ages are welcome to bring dad in for a princess make-over and craft a special gift just for him. Snap heart-warming selfies that capture patient fathers being painted, primped and styled by their kids.

Scavenger Hunt - All month long, no set time.

Big Flats

Big Flats Library is looking for youth volunteers to dress as characters from children's books (any costume related to book characters, including comic books) and march in the Big Flats Community Days Parade. Children must have their own costumes and be available on Saturday, June 15th at 3pm and be prepared to walk at least 1 mile in the parade. Anyone interested should contact the Big Flats Library and let Glenice Peel know by June 7 if you will be marching in the parade and what character you will represent: (607) 562-3300.

Universe of Stories

Big Flat's Summer Reading Club kickoff event will be held on Tuesday, June 25th at 6:00pm.

It's time for the Summer Reading Club! Come and enjoy craft tables from all the other libraries and take your crafts home with you. Sign up for the reading club and get a bag of swag to take home too. Weekly events will also be happening so watch for the fun this summer at the Big Flats Library.

Bookmobile

Map of the WorldThe bookmobile will be at Old McDonald Farm at the Chemung County Fair Grounds on June 8th from 10am to 3pm and at Touch-A-Truck, 10am-2pm at the Arnot Mall on June 15th, 10am to 2pm. Join us at both of these great events and make your very own button.

Our book club meets the 2nd Friday of the month at the Bulkhead stop in Southport at 1:30pm. For the month of May we read "Do Not Become Alarmed" by Maile Meloy to discuss on June 14th. This month we will read "A Map of the World" by Jane Hamilton to discuss in July.

Universe of StoriesIt's time for our Annual Summer Reading Club Kick-Off! Stop by and register for Summer Reading Club which runs from June 24 - August 3. Staff from four of the library branches will be here with various activities. This year we will even have face painting! Don't forget to bring your library card and sign-out some books.  Log your minutes and come back each week to enter prize drawings!

West Elmira

LaunchpadLaunchpads are now available at the West Elmira Library! Starting June 1st, we will begin to circulate Playaway Launchpads to our patrons.  Launchpads are pre-loaded tablets that contain high quality, ad-free learning apps for all ages. The West Elmira Library has purchased a total of twenty of these durable tablets and will display them in our DVD section.  Age ranges for these learning tablets include; ages 3-5, ages 5-7, ages 8-10, Teen, and Adult.  These tablets are 100% secure and require no internet access to use which makes them great for long trips or just to use around the house.  Call for more information or stop in and ask us how you can learn a new language or skill, dive into challenging puzzles, unwind with popular games, and so much more!
