National Library Card Sign-up Month

September is National Library Card Sign-up Month! Stop in to any Chemung County Library during the month of September for your chance to win a prize! Every time you check out this month, you will receive a scratch off with a chance to win: money off your fines, CCLD merchandise, reading log books, buttons, candy, bookmarks, and more!

Back this year is our collectible library card! Stop in to any CCLD library and purchase one of our Limited Time CCLD cards while supplies last. Made by our very own Steve, one of CCLD's Makerspace staff, this card was inspired by L. Frank Baum's beloved classic, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Cards are $1 for existing members and FREE for new members.

Friends of the Horseheads Free Library Book Sale

The Friends of Horseheads Free Library invites you to the 2019 Book Sale at the Town and Country Fire Hall located at 130 Gardner Road Horseheads, NY 14845. The hours are 10 am - 7 pm on Tuesday, September 10th - Thursday, September 12th. Our bag sale will be Friday, September 13th from 10 am - 5 pm and Saturday, September 14th from 10 am - 1 pm.

Laser Engraved Pencils

Personalize your back-to-school pencils using the Tinker Lab's laser engraver.

Abstract Forest

We have several art classes at Steele this month! First up we have a clay sculpture class with artist Wynn Yarrow on September 12th at 6:30pm. On Saturday, September 14th at 2pm you can paint an abstract forest with artist Filomena Jack, using acrylic paint. Finally, we will be offering a Sumi-e Japanese ink painting class on September 16th at 6:30pm. Sign up for these classes by calling 733-9175 (open to adults and teens).

This project is made possible, in part, with public funds from NYSCA's Decentralization Program, and by the QuickARTS grant program funded by the Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes, Inc. Both programs are administered regionally by The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes.

Secret Life of Pets 2September 13, 1pm - It's BOOKCLUB!!! For anyone that has read the book "Olive Kitteridge" by Elizabeth Strout. Please feel free to join us at 1:00 p.m. for the discussion. The book club will be facilitated by a staff member of Ithaca College. Free for all to attend.

September 17, 6pm - It's movie and popcorn night! Tonight's feature is "The Secret Life of Pets 2". Those lovable animals are back for more adventures.  Movie starts at 6:00 and as always, popcorn will be served.

September 18, 10:30pm - Toddler and preschool storyhour starts again today. Every Wednesday morning at 10:30 am, Miss Melanie will lead the fun with stories, songs and dances.  We hope that you will come and enjoy the fun. (Suggested ages 2-5)

Bookmobile

428 DaysThis month we are happy to return to our school, Head Start, and daycare stops to offer story times and more. Kids can check out books and return them during one of our bi-weekly visits. We look forward to seeing everyone again!

Our book club meets the 2nd Friday of the month at the Bulkhead stop in Southport at 1:30pm. For the month of August we read "The Child" by Fiona Barton to discuss on September 13th. This month we will discuss "438 Days" by Jonathan Franklin to discuss in October.

Lit lovers will discuss The Overstory, by Richard Powers, and the Evening Book Club will discuss their list of summer reading titles.  Also, sign up to learn all about your tablet or smartphone!

Supers and Villains

It's time to roll out fall programming at the Horseheads Free Library! Fall means the return of story time, homeschool program, and kitty lit. We are also adding a book club for kids entering Kindergarten-2nd grade.

Who doesn't want to dress up like a superhero for a day? Celebrate Batman Day with us on Saturday the 21st. There will be some supers and villains available for meet and greets!
