Everyone (ages 2+) entering district libraries is required to wear a mask (NYS Department of Health Guidance for indoor settings where vaccination status of individuals is unknown).

All CCLD libraries will be closed July 5th.

Summer Reading Club

Tails and Tales

Summer Reading Club has begun! There will be special events, reading challenges, fun activities, prizes, and more from now until August 6th. Call or stop by your local library for specific program details.

CCLD Makerspace

Tinker Lab

Makerspace classes are now available by request. Visit ccldmakerspace.org/classes for a list of available classes and a link to the registration page. All classes will be held at Steele Memorial Library.

CCLD Makerspace is open by appointment. Use our booking form ccldmakerspace.youcanbook.me to reserve a time. Requests for 3D printing may be made online at ccldmakerspace.org/3d-printing-request.

Virtual Events

This year we are offering the Page Turner Animal Adventures virtual Summer Library Program. Each week, kids at home can join Page Turner and Kenny (plus a cast of kids) as they jump into the Once Upon a Time Machine in search of stories and adventure.

Horseheads Free Library

Sign up for Summer Reading Club in person or online. Log 500 minutes to qualify for the grand prize drawing! Craft kits are available to go along with the Page Turner online programs. Contact Horseheads Library for details: 739-4581.

Steele Memorial Library

Canva Classroom

When you sign up for Steele Memorial Library's Summer Reading Club program you can pick up a registration bag, while supplies last. Each bag contains a reading log plus supplies for weekly crafts. You can follow Miss Britt and Ms. Amanda while we craft through our Bitmoji Classroom or follow along on the CCLD YouTube channel.

Activities for Adults

Adopt a plant baby!

Steele Memorial Library is offering a Take & Plant, beginning July 1. We will have an assortment of plant babies ready for new homes from our Spider, Aloe, and Dwarf Umbrella Plants with info sheets for each species. Limited supply, first come, first serve. Stop by to choose one on the first floor, in front of the Customer Service desk. We will have a different "Take & Make" kit available each week until the end of Summer Reading Club (August 6). Sign up for Steele's Summer Reading Club for adults and log minutes to be entered in a weekly prize drawing for a $50 gift certificate to a locally owned restaurant/business of your choice (subject to availability).

Big Flats Library's Adult "Take & Make" Kit for July is a Three Herb Starter Kit. Each starter kit will include:  3 planting pots, drainage rocks, bag of soil, basil seeds, chive seeds & oregano seeds. Please call Big Flats to reserve your kit. 562-3300

Sign up for Horseheads Library's Summer Reading Club for Adults and record minutes to win weekly prizes (gift cards for local restaurants and massage therapists). Take and Make kits and other activities will be available throughout July. Check the events calendar for details. The first week in August, a grand prize winner will be selected from all who recorded minutes during July. Grand Prize drawing is Dinner for 4 on Captain Bill's cruise.

For summer, West Elmira has two virtual art classes with Wynn Yarrow coming up in August (8/16 & 8/30) as well as a Wine & Design take and make kit (8/23). The classes with Wynn Yarrow are made possible in part by the QuickARTS grant program administered by The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes and funded by the Community Foundation of the Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes, Inc.

Library Services at Home

CCLD cardholders now have access to hoopla! Borrow movies, music, audiobooks, ebooks, comics, and TV shows to enjoy on your computer, tablet, or phone - and even your TV! With no waiting, titles can be streamed immediately, or downloaded to phones or tablets for offline enjoyment later. CCLD cardholders can borrow 4 titles each month. Go to hoopladigital.com to create an account and start borrowing.

Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspots are available to check out from Steele Memorial Library for those in need of internet access at home. Call 733-9175 to reserve a hotspot. *You need to live in an area with cell phone reception in order for the hotspot to work at your house.*

Remote Genealogy ResearchDue to COVID constraints, the Genealogy department at Steele Memorial Library has temporarily waived its remote research fees. Email edesk@stls.org with your contact information and genealogy question. You can access Ancestry Library Edition from home, through December! Discover your family history and start your family tree. Access billions of genealogy records including Census, SSDI & Military records.

Enjoy ebooks, audiobooks, magazines, streaming video, online classes, language learning, and more, from the convenience of your home! Check out the library's Featured Services page for a list of digital services that can be accessed remotely with your Chemung County Library District card.
