Holiday Hours

January 1: CCLD libraries are closed.
January 17: Steele is open 10-6pm; other CCLD libraries are closed.

CCLD Makerspace

Tinker Lab

New equipment is available for telehealth and teleconferencing in the Steele Memorial Library Digital Media Lab. A brief, free training session on use of the laptop is required before using these services. For more information, please contact the Reference Desk at 607-733-9175.

Makerspace classes are available by request. Visit ccldmakerspace.org/classes for a list of available classes and a link to the registration page. All classes will be held at Steele Memorial Library.

Big Flats Library

January Assortment of Crafts! Stop by the Big Flats Library any time to complete one of the many crafts that we have available this month. If you would rather take & make at home just stop in the Big Flats Library and grab a kit! Everything from mini LEGOs to photo clip holders, bead projects & more! All ages welcome! (In-person is limited to groups of up to 6). Face coverings are required.

Kids, Read to Earn Tokens! Pick up your reading log sheet at the Big Flats Library!  For every 10 books read to earn one token for the prize machine!

Horseheads Library

This month's take n make is a Narwhal craft, the unicorn of the sea. The kits will be available all month long. This month's book for book club is "Red Sled" by Lita Judge. We will continue working through the letters I, N, B & D in storytime.

Steele Memorial Library

Programs are returning to the library! Registration is required to participate and masks must be worn at all times. Space is limited to accommodate social distancing and unregistered guests will be asked to leave. Program registration will begin the week before the event. CCLD Kids is starting a Library Lab program to provide kids and families with a space and opportunity to experience art.

Van Etten Library

This month, take home a kit to make your very own Borax Crystal Snowflakes! This craft is for all ages! *While supplies last.*

West Elmira Library

All Month Event - TINY ART SHOW - All Ages - Stop by and pick up a mini-canvas and then bring it back to the library once you've painted it. We will display your artwork on the bookshelves for all our patron to enjoy!

Weekly in January - Adult and Children's Take & Makes; a new one available each week!

Thursdays, January 20 & 27, 10:30am - IN-PERSON Storytime - registration required and limited to 10 families. Registration available Mon-Wed during the week of the storytime. Masks required for everyone ages 2 and up.

Bookmobile

Our book club meets the 2nd Tuesday of the month at the Chapel Park in Southport at 4pm. We will continue to offer the Zoom option for anyone unable to join us or if there is inclement weather. For January we read "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" by Betty Smith, to discuss on January 11th. This month we will read "The Fault in our stars" by John Green to discuss in February.

Horseheads Free Library

For the start of the New Year we will have local artist Wynn Yarrow do an adult craft kit series in January and February. January's craft kit will be called "Key to my Heart". Show your devotion with this clever clay heart and attached key. Form a heart-shaped ornament from air-dried clay. Limit of 20 kits. Call or email zella@stls.org to register.

Join our Lit Lovers to talk about books, both old and new. Call 607-739-4581 to register. The group will meet on Wednesday, January 12, 1-3pm. The group currently meets in-person at a member's house.

Steele Memorial Library

Monday, January 10 - Take & Make Craft - Snowflake String Art. First come, first serve. Create a seasonal decoration for home or work. Supplies included, you will need a hammer and needle nose pliers.

Monday, January 24 - Spice of the Month Kit - Tahini. First come, first serve, very limited supply. Grab a kit with a jar of tahini and recipes from Steele Memorial's cook books to try it out with!

Enjoy ebooks, audiobooks, magazines, streaming video, online classes, language learning, and more, from the convenience of your home! Check out the library's Featured Services page for a list of digital services that can be accessed remotely with your Chemung County Library District card.

Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspots are available to check out from Steele Memorial Library for those in need of internet access at home. Call 733-9175 to reserve a hotspot. *You need to live in an area with cell phone reception in order for the hotspot to work at your house.*

Remote Genealogy ResearchDue to COVID constraints, the Genealogy department at Steele Memorial Library has temporarily waived its remote research fees. Email edesk@stls.org with your contact information and genealogy question. Newspapers.com and Fold3 are now available for CCLD patrons!
