CCLD Makerspace

New resources are available for use in CCLD Makerspace’s Digital Media Lab at Steele Memorial Library. Equipment includes:

  • Telehealth and teleconferencing laptop for private video conferencing, such as remote medical appointments, job applications, and interviews.
  • Audio equipment including a multi-channel recorder, microphones, and headphone monitor for podcasting, storytelling, and music production.

Patrons will be required to attend a free training session on the equipment that they would like to use.

  • For training on the telehealth and teleconferencing laptop, contact the Reference Desk at 607-733-9175.
  • For training on the audio recording equipment, contact CCLD Makerspace at 607-733-8609.

Big Flats Library

Call to sign up for our Noah’s Ark Stuffed Animal workshops. Two workshop sign up dates are available. Sign up for Tuesday, March 8, 6:30pm or Tuesday, March 15, 6:30pm. Limit of 15 per workshop. 607-562-3300

All of March, Kids & Teens Craft at the library: Painted Rocks. Make a cute bug, or design your own painted rock at the library, all month!

Kids, Read to Earn Tokens (all of March)! Pick up your reading log sheet at the Big Flats Library!  For every 10 books read earn one token for the prize machine!

Big Flats Scavenger Hunt (all of March): Dr. Seuss Scavenger Hunt! Search the library for your favorite Dr. Seuss characters!

Horseheads Library

Battle of the Books is back! Come by each week to vote for your favorite Eric Carle book. This month’s take n make is inspired by the saying "in like a lion, out like a lamb".  The kits will be available all month long to make both a lion and a lamb. This month’s book for (virtual) book club is John Ronald’s Dragons by Caroline McAlister. We will continue working through the letters H, L, E, G, and W in (virtual) storytime.

Steele Memorial Library

Programs are returning to the library! Registration is required to participate and masks must be worn at all times. Space is limited to accommodate social distancing and unregistered guests will be asked to leave. Program registration will begin the week before the event.

Monthly Scavenger Hunt - Flowers - Stop by the library to seek out flowers to celebrate Spring at West Elmira. Win a prize for completing!

Tuesday, 3pm - Weekly Perler Bead Program - Stop in to the library afterschool every Tuesday and make a Perler creation of your own design! No registration required. Masks required.

Wednesdays, 10:30am - Homeschool Group - registration required and limited to 5 families. Registration available Mon-Wed during the week of the storytime. Masks required for everyone in attendance.

Thursdays, 10:30am - Storytime - registration required and limited to 10 families. Registration available Mon-Wed during the week of the storytime. Masks required for everyone ages 2 and up.

Activities for Teens at Steele

Enter a drawing for a $30 Amazon gift card by doing Teen Winter Reading Bingo! Pick up a Bingo sheet in the teen space, or request a copy to be sent to you by emailing parka@stls.org, or we can send it via Direct Message on our teen library Instagram or snapchat accounts. Prize drawing will be held on April 1.

Big Flats Library

All of March, Adult Spring Basket Giveaway! With every checkout enter the "Spring Basket" drawing for your chance to win a basket filled with spring related items!

Bookmobile

Bookmobile will be in the Horseheads St. Patrick’s Day parade, March 12th 2pm. Come and join in the fun.

Our book club meets the 2nd Tuesday of the month at the Chapel Park in Southport at 4pm. We will continue to offer the Zoom option for anyone unable to join us, or if there is inclement weather. For March we read, "The Fault in our Stars" by John Green to discuss on March 8th. We will read "The Deep End of the Ocean" by Jacquelyn Mitchard to discuss in April.

Horseheads Free Library

Adult craft kit made by local Artist Wynn Yarrow. Make a wee fairy house and the fairy who lives there. The fairy is made from wood, wool and other materials. Written and video instructions are provided. Limit of 20. Call (607)739-4581 or email zella@stls.org to register.

Plant Prop Giveaway: We have so many plants we would like to share. Take a cutting home and see how it grows. Limited supplies, first come, first serve.

Our Easily Distracted by Plants video series is still going on. Every two weeks a new video is posted.

Join our Lit Lovers to talk about books, both old and new. Call 607-739-4581 to register. The group will meet on Wednesday, March 9, 1-3pm. The group currently meets in-person at a member's house.

Steele Memorial Library

A Red Cross Blood Drive will be held at Steele in the large meeting room on Thursday, March 3, 1pm-6pm. Please visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-REDCROSS (733-2767) to schedule your lifesaving appointment.

Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspots are available to check out from Steele Memorial Library and West Elmira Library for those in need of internet access at home. Call (607)733-9175 (Steele) or (607)733-0541 (West) to reserve a hotspot. *You need to live in an area with cell phone reception in order for the hotspot to work at your house.*
