National Library Week

National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries of all types across the country each April. April 3-9, 2022 is National Library Week; this year's National Library Week is, "Connect with Your Library."

Check something out at your local CCLD branch, from April 3-9, for your chance to be the lucky winner of an iPad, 3D Printer, or a $250 gift card of your choice. Bonus entries awarded for inquiring about our digital services, attending a program, or checking out an item from any of our "special" collections. For more information, call or stop by your neighborhood library.

Virtual Friends Books Sandwiched In

This year's Virtual Friends Books Sandwiched In talks will be presented via Zoom meeting on April 1, 8, 22, and 29, at 12pm. The presentations will be recorded and posted online at a later date. Visit the following website for talk details and to register: https://ccld.lib.ny.us/bsizoom/.

Now's the time to think - seeds!

Now is the perfect time to think about spring planting. Our Seed Lending Library is ready to browse any time we are open, so check it out!

Seed Lending is easy; visit our seed collection, check out the seeds that interest you, and bring back seeds you harvest in the fall!

Come visit the Reference Desk on the second floor at the Steele Library for more information and, to check out some seeds!

Technology Training at CCLD Libraries

One-on-one basic computer/device instruction is available in the evenings. Let us know what you'd like to learn! Contact Steele Memorial Library (607-733-9175) or Horseheads Free Library (607-739-4581) to schedule an appointment with one of our librarians. Horseheads appointments are available on Mondays at 6:30pm; appointment days and times at Steele will vary by instructor.

CCLD Makerspace

The Tinker Lab is resuming drop-in visits. Appointments are no longer required, but are still recommended in order to guarantee the use of specific equipment. Classes will still require registration. Making an appointment or scheduling a class may be done using our online calendars.

New resources are available for use in CCLD Makerspace's Digital Media Lab at Steele Memorial Library. Equipment includes:

  • Telehealth and teleconferencing laptop for private video conferencing, such as remote medical appointments, job applications, and interviews.
  • Audio equipment including a multi-channel recorder, microphones, and headphone monitor for podcasting, storytelling, and music production.

Patrons will be required to attend a free training session on the equipment that they would like to use.

  • For training on the telehealth and teleconferencing laptop, contact the Reference Desk at 607-733-9175.
  • For training on the audio recording equipment, contact CCLD Makerspace at 607-733-8609.

Spring has sprung at the Horseheads Library! This month's take n make is a Butterfly. The kits will be available all month long. This month's book club selection is "A Splash of Red" by Jennifer Bryant. We will continue working through the alphabet with letters J, X, and U in storytime and an Easter-themed virtual storytime on April 14.

Steele Memorial Library

Programs are returning to the library! Join us LIVE and IN-PERSON at the library for Family Storytime every Tuesday at 10:30am, starting April 12th. Enjoy a storytime with your child that includes early literacy fun with books, songs, fingerplays and body movement.

April 21st, join us as we celebrate Arbor Day with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. Families can pick up seedling trees to plant (while supplies last). Planting and caring for tree seedlings can help children learn about ecosystems and the valuable role trees play. Every child that takes home a seedling can enter for a chance to win a gardening gift basket. Drawing will be held on Arbor Day, April 29th.

Our book club meets the 2nd Tuesday of the month at Chapel Park in Southport at 4pm. We will continue to offer Zoom as an option for anyone unable to join us, or if there is inclement weather. For the month of March we read "The Deep End of the Ocean" by Jacquelyn Mitchard to discuss on April 12th at 4:00pm. For April, we will read "This Tender Land" by William Kruger to discuss in May.

Call (607)733-9175 (Steele) or (607)733-0541 (West) to reserve a hotspot. *You need to live in an area with cell phone reception in order for the hotspot to work at your house.*
