Board of Trustee open seats for 2023
The public will have the opportunity to elect library district trustees from five districts in the November 2022 election. Petitions from interested candidates from these five districts are now solicited: 3rd, 4th, 8th, 9th, and 13th. Interested parties can download or request a petition from the CCLD Business Office (607-733-8607 or CCLDBusOff@stls.org). Completed petitions must be submitted to the Business Office, at the Steele Memorial Library by Monday, September 12th, 2022 at 3pm for inclusion on the election ballot.
Summer Reading Club
Summer Reading Club is the perfect time for all ages to see what their local library has to offer! The 2022 summer reading slogan is "Oceans of Possibilities" and runs through August 5th. Call or stop by your local library for specific program details.
Now's the time to think - seeds!
Now is the perfect time to think about planting. Our Seed Lending Library is ready to browse any time we are open, so check it out!
Borrowing seeds is easy: visit our seed collection at Steele Memorial Library on the 2nd floor, check out the seeds that interest you, and bring back seeds you harvest in the fall!
Technology Training at CCLD Libraries
One-on-one basic computer/device instruction is available in the evenings. Let us know what you'd like to learn! Contact Steele Memorial Library (607-733-9175) or Horseheads Free Library (607-739-4581) to schedule an appointment with one of our librarians. Horseheads appointments are available on Mondays at 6:30pm; appointment days and times at Steele will vary by instructor.
CCLD Makerspace
Media Conversion: Digitize Your Memories
Preserve the memories stored on your slides, 8mm & Super-8 films, and VHS tapes by using CCLD Makerspace's media converters to create digital copies. This class offers instruction on the converter(s) of your choice, so that you are able to use them independently.
A valid library card is required in order to use the converters.

All Month - Scavenger Hunt: Seashells! Search the library for hidden pictures of seashells! Find them all and earn a token for the prize machine!
All month - Craft Table: Paper cup lobster craft. Stop by any day, any time and make your lobster craft.
Bookmobile
Come see the Bookmobile at Strong Kids Safe Kids on August 27th from 11-2 for special prizes and games. Mask are recommended, while on the bus.
Horseheads Library
Summer Reading Club is ending soon! Make sure that you are logging your minutes to earn prizes. This year's grand prize is a family trip to Cascades Indoor Waterpark at Greek Peak. This month's take n make is a clownfish craft. The kits will be available all month long. This month's selection for book club is Nora's Chicks by Patricia MacLachlan. Booker's Clubhouse is back with story and activity time for kids ages 0-5.

Summer Reading Club ends on August 5th. Sign-up for the Reading Club online or stop by the library to pick up a reading log.
Join us on August 4th at 1pm for Didgeridoo Down Under. Take a musical journey to Australia and beyond, as the performer plays an assortment of didgeridoos and percussion instruments. Following the performance, there will be a Didgeridoo Aussie Funk Jam Workshop at 2:15pm. Tween (ages 8+) registrants learn how to play the didgeridoo creating simple rhythms and more. On August 9, 6pm, local author Sherinda Ryter will be discussing her new book, "White Squirrel: Lenape Brave", a book about Sam & Mack- a boy and his dog. The talk will include how she got her ideas for the book, how long it took to write the book, and the publishing process. Interested participants should call 562-3300 to register for this event. Light refreshments will be served.

Bookmobile
Our book club normally meets the 2nd Tuesday of the month at the Chapel Park in Southport at 4pm. This month only, the Book discussion will be Friday, August 19th at 4:00pm. For the month of July we read "Tara Road" by Maeve Binchy. We will continue to offer the Zoom options for anyone unable to join us or if there is inclement weather.
We will read "The Lake" by Natasha Preston this month, to discuss at the September meeting.

Stop by the library, August 1 - 12, for our Sweet Summertime Basket Quiz: Complete a Summertime quiz for entry to win a beautiful basket of sweet summertime goodies. This basket is a prize in itself, even without all the goodies inside. Quizzes must be entered by August 12. Winner will be chosen on August 15.

Spice of the Month Kit - Galangal Root Powder! Begins Monday, August 22. First come, first serve. Available until gone. Pick up some galangal root powder (cousin of ginger) and some recipes from library cookbooks to try it out with!
We have two in-person art classes this month (wire wrapped bracelets and sustainable pennants), made possible by the QuickARTS grant program administered by The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes and funded by the Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes, Inc.
