September 5 - All CCLD Libraries are CLOSED for Labor Day.

Saturday hours at Steele Memorial Library and Horseheads Free Library begin on September 17th.

Long-Time Library Director Retired

Ronald Shaw, the director of the Chemung County Library District, retired after 12 years with the library on August 31, 2022. The CCLD Board wishes him well and will be conducting a nation-wide search for his replacement in the coming months. In the meantime, Owen Frank, long-time district employee and branch supervisor, will serve as interim director.

Library Card Sign-up Month

September is Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when Chemung County Library District joins the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries nationwide to remind parents, caregivers, and students that signing up for a library card is the first step on the path to academic achievement and lifelong learning.

Starting Tuesday, September 6th, visit any CCLD branch during the month of September and spin the prize wheel once a day when you check out. Sign up for a new card to earn a second chance to spin! Prizes will include a variety of things from CCLD goodies, coupons to the CCLD Makerspace, candy, collectible library cards, gift certificates to local businesses, and more!

Board of Trustee open seats for 2023

The public will have the opportunity to elect library district trustees from five districts in the November 2022 election. Petitions from interested candidates from these five districts are now solicited: 3rd, 4th, 8th, 9th, and 13th. Interested parties can download or request a petition from the CCLD Business Office (607-733-8607 or CCLDBusOff@stls.org). Completed petitions must be submitted to the Business Office, at the Steele Memorial Library by Monday, September 12th, 2022 at 3pm for inclusion on the election ballot.

Technology Training at CCLD Libraries

One-on-one basic computer/device instruction is available in the evenings. Let us know what you'd like to learn! Contact Steele Memorial Library (607-733-9175) or Horseheads Free Library (607-739-4581) to schedule an appointment with one of our librarians. Horseheads appointments are available on Mondays at 6:30pm; appointment days and times at Steele will vary by instructor.

CCLD Makerspace

Water Bottle Engraving - Turn a plain looking water bottle into something that is uniquely yours using CCLD Makerspace’s laser engraver.

Water bottles must be coated metal (powder coated/painted steel or anodized aluminum). Bottles without curves or handles are easier to engrave. Use of the laser costs $0.05 per minute. Engraving times vary based on the size of the design (usually between 5 - 30 minutes).

To sign up, use our online calendar to schedule a time.
