Friends Books Sandwiched In

The remaining sessions of the Friends of CCLD Fall 2022 Books Sandwiched In series will take place on October 14th and 21st from 12-1pm at Steele Memorial Library. For more information, download the full schedule. No lunches will be for sale or food allowed during the talks.

Technology Training at CCLD Libraries

One-on-one basic computer/device instruction is available in the evenings. Let us know what you'd like to learn! Contact Steele Memorial Library (607-733-9175) or Horseheads Free Library (607-739-4581) to schedule an appointment with one of our librarians. Horseheads appointments are available on Mondays at 6:30pm; appointment days and times at Steele will vary by instructor.

CCLD Makerspace

Paper Pumpkin Boxes - Create pumpkin-themed papercraft boxes in the Tinker Lab activity area. Fill them with candy to hand out to trick-or-treaters or place an LED candle inside for a mini jack o' lantern decoration.

This activity will be available all month long or until supplies run out. Limit of 10 per person. To make more than 10, please bring your own cardstock. Candy and LED candle not included.

The days are getting cooler, but things are warming up at the library! Magician Cris Johnson will be putting on his show Spooky Magic for us later this month. We are also introducing a monthly BINGO game for kids. This month's take n make is a scarecrow craft. The kits will be available all month long. This month's selection for book club is Bear Snores On by Karma Wilson.

Steele Memorial Library Children's Department Celebrates National Apple Month

October is Bat Appreciation Month as well as National Apple Month! Celebrate bats with some batty Weekly Take Home Craft Kits. A different craft each week, while supplies last. On Thursday, October 6th we celebrate apples! Stop by to dip mini apples in chocolate and cover them in decorations and toppings.

The Big Flats Library Book Club will begin meeting in person Thursday, October 13, 1pm.  Zoom attendance is still available using the link on the Big Flats Library event calendar. This month's Book discussion is on Mr. Mercedes (The Bill Hodges Trilogy) by Stephen King.

Bookmobile

Our book club meets the 2nd Tuesday of the month at the Chapel Park in Southport at 4pm. We will continue to offer the Zoom options for anyone unable to join us or if there is inclement weather. For the month of September, we read "Educated" by Tara Westover. This month, we will discuss "Silent Sister" by Diane Chamberlain, to discuss in November.

The Haunted History of New England will be presented by Christopher Daley, via Zoom, on Monday, October 24th, 6-7pm. We will have viewing locations available at Steele Memorial Library, Horseheads Free Library, and West Elmira Library, for those who would like to watch the talk at the library with other patrons.
