Summer Reading Club

Summer Reading Club is the perfect time for all ages to see what their local library has to offer! The 2024 summer reading slogan is "Adventure Begins at Your Library" ​and we are planning many fun programs and events around this theme. There will be special events, reading challenges, fun activities, and more throughout the summer months from July 1 through August 9. Call or stop by your local library for specific program details.

Technology Training at CCLD Libraries

Volunteer Tech Help is available on Fridays at 1:15pm at Steele. Call to make an appointment with volunteer Steven, for help with your device! Steven is also able to help with assistive tech for the visually impaired (can recommend apps and services). Call 607-733-9173 (option 4) to reserve a spot.

Tablet Talk is back at Horseheads and Steele libraries! Learn to use your tablet or smartphone, in a small group setting.

Tinker Lab Hours

Until further notice, the Tinker Lab will be closed on Saturdays. Regular operating hours throughout the rest of the week will remain unchanged.

Activities for Adults

Summer Reading Club for all ages begins this month! At Steele, we will have weekly prize drawings for any adults who have logged at least some reading time that week. All CCLD adult reading club participants will be entered to win the grand prize: Dinner for 4 on Captain Bill's Seneca Cruise. Our end of SRC party for adults will be a Silent Reading Party with live harp music and snacks, on Friday, August 9, 5:30-7:30pm. Summer Reading Club activities are made possible by the Friends of CCLD.

Activities for Teens

7th-12th graders can hang out any time the library is open, in the teen space at Steele Library. Read, draw, do crafts, have snacks, play video games, board games, watch TV, or just chill with friends. Don't have a library card?  No problem. We can get you one. You don't need a card to hang out in the space. You just have to be in 7th-12th grade.

Big Flats Library

Stories with Music - Orchestera of the Southern Finger Lakes

For all ages, on July 25 @ 3:00pm, the Big Flats Library welcomes the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes String Duo, Harp & Cello performance "Scottish Fairy Tales, Myths & Legends".  (This program is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrant Program and administered by the Arts Council of the Southern Finger Lakes).

Join the Big Flats Teen D&D Group & Dungeon Master Tim Collins on July 18 & August 1, 4pm, for an exciting role-playing game experience. Create your character and join your friends and peers in an epic exploration of a fantasy realm. These game sessions are ideal for those new to D&D as well.

Bookmobile

Bookmobile will be busy this July, with summer activities: Summer Reading Club, Summer Cohesion, Big Flats Taffy program, and Southport parks program.

Our book club meets the 2nd Friday of the month at Bulkhead Hardware in Southport at 1:30pm. For the month of June we read "When Crickets Cry" by Charles Martin, to discuss on July 12 at 1:30pm. We will read, "The Time Between" by Karen White, to discuss in August.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to spend the night at the library? Your stuffed friends are invited to do just that on July 17.  When you come to pick your stuffy up the next day you will get pictures of all the activities that went on the night before.  It’s time for Summer Reading Club!  Make sure that you are registered and logging how many minutes you read.  This month’s take 'n make is a Whale Handprint Craft.  There will be events happening every Tuesday and Booker’s Clubhouse on Thursdays.
