Holiday Closing

Library Card Sign-up Month
September is Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when Chemung County Library District joins the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries nationwide to remind parents, caregivers, and students that signing up for a library card is the first step on the path to academic achievement and lifelong learning.
Starting Tuesday, September 3rd, the Chemung County Library District will host Library Card Sign-up activities: Visit any Chemung County Library branch during the month of September and spin the prize wheel once a day when you check out. Sign up for a new card to earn a second chance to spin! Prizes will include a variety of things from CCLD goodies, coupons to the CCLD Makerspace, candy, stickers, chances to win a gift card, and more!
Friends of Horseheads Free Library Book Sale
The Friends of the Horseheads Free Library invites you to the 2024 Book Sale at the Town and Country Fire Hall (130 Gardner Road Horseheads, NY) from September 17-21 (Tuesday - Friday, 10am-7pm; Saturday, 10am-1pm). There will be a 2-hour pre-sale on Tuesday, September 17th, 8am - 10am, for those who'd like the opportunity to shop before the sale opens to the general public; there is a $10.00 fee to gain entry during the pre-sale. Cash or checks payable to the Friends of the Horseheads Free Library. We will be having our bag sale on Friday, September 20th and Saturday September 21st. Bring a bag and fill with books, CDs, or DVDs for $5.00!
Technology Training at CCLD Libraries
Volunteer Tech Help is available on Fridays at 1:15pm at Steele. Call to make an appointment with volunteer Steven, for help with your device! Steven is also able to help with assistive tech for the visually impaired (can recommend apps and services). Call 607-733-9173 (option 4) to reserve a spot.
Tablet Talk is back at Horseheads and Steele libraries! Learn to use your tablet or smartphone, in a small group setting.

Sewing Workshops
Sew and socialize at one of our upcoming workshops! Bring your work-in-progress projects or project ideas to an Open Sew for advice or assistance. Looking to learn more about sewing? Attend our Skill Building classes. Topics will vary from class to class, so check each month to see what skills are being covered.
Registration is required for the Skill Building classes. Call the Makerspace at 607-733-9173 (option 3) to reserve a spot. Open Sew workshops do not require registration, but space and supplies may be limited.

Join the Big Flats Teen D&D Group & Dungeon Master Tim Collins for an exciting role-playing
game experience. Create your character and join your friends and peers in an epic exploration of a fantasy realm. These game sessions are ideal for those new to D&D as well.

Bookmobile
Our book club meets the 2nd Friday of the month at Bulkhead Hardware in Southport at 1:30pm. For the month of August we read "The Most Fun We Ever Had" by Claire Lombardo, to discuss on September 13, 1:30pm. We will read "The Quiet Tenant" by Clemence Michallon, to discuss on October 11.
Horseheads Free Library
The Horseheads Free Library will be opening at 11am on Thursday, September 5th as our staff will be attending a special meeting.

Tuesdays, September 3, 10, 17, 24, 10:30am - Gentle Movements with Tammy Wilcox are back for 2024 due to a generous donation from the Horseheads Friends Group. This class uses a chair for balance poses and less floor positions. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a mat if you have one.
Wednesdays, September 11, 18, 25, October 2, 10:30am - Yoga with Tammy Wilcox. This is an instructor led Yoga class, a mat and comfortable clothes needed. This class will feature more balance positions and floor work.
September 23, 5:30pm-7pm - Painting with Jane Kim-Pronti. Instructor led acrylic painting class of a beautiful fall landscape with gorgeous colors. Limit 15. Registration needed.
September 30, 6pm - Writer’s Support Group. This is the 1-year anniversary of this group. This group is for writers who are looking for connections and support during their writing process. No registration required.

Hey kids! Share the books, movies and music you LOVE with other kids at the Horseheads Free Library! Each week a "Kid Librarian" will be chosen to create a display of their faves! You will be invited to decorate a shelf in our Children's Department with our craft supplies and your imagination! If you are interested in being our Kid Librarian, come to the Horseheads Free Library and or email Robin at illerr@stls.org!
