January 1 - All branches closed
January 20 - Central (Steele Memorial) Library will be open from 10 AM - 6 PM. All other CCLD branches will be closed.
Technology Training Survey
Now that the Central Library's Technology Training Room construction is complete, we are asking for your help with developing our training curriculum. At your earliest convenience, please click here to participate in a short 5 question survey that will help us develop a series of technology courses that benefit all.
Big Flats
The staff of the Big Flats Library look forward to serving all our patrons in 2014. Stay tuned to our website for new and exciting programs starting mid-January.
Bookmobile
The Bookmobile will be back on the road in January as we greet all the children back from their break. We look forward to hearing all their exciting holiday stories. As always we will begin story times again for the classes as well as doing craft programs for the Southside Community Center. The CCLD Bookmobile was picked by Author Laurie Cass as the winner of a picture contest for nation-wide bookmobiles. As winner of the contest, our bookmobile is being featured on her website and we have received 3 copies of her new bookmobile mystery series "Lending a Paw.” Look for them on our shelves soon! Stay tuned to the February newsletter for the web address so you can see the Chemung County Bookmobile posted on her webpage. The bookmobile was also picked to be included in the 2014 Center Point Publishing Company calendar. Kim, Sue and the Bookmobile will be featured during the month of March.

Eat Smart New York Cooking Classes
Start out the New Year with a healthy new you! Central Library, along with Cornell Cooperative Extension, is offering a six week series of healthy cooking classes. Come and try easy, tasty, new recipes. Learn how to save money at the grocery store. The classes will be held every Wednesday evening from 6:00-7:00pm beginning January 8th. Register now by calling 733-9173. This free series is part of the Eat Smart New York program.
Central Library Book Club
On January 13, 2014 at 4pm, The Central Library Book Club welcomes any interested parties to our discussion of Rebecca Skloot’s, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. We will meet in the large meeting room. Light Refreshments will be provided.
So Bad, It's Good Movie Night
This month there will be a special after hours edition of "So bad, it's good!" movie night. Join us on Friday, January 17th at 6:30pm for a showing of Birdemic: Shock and Terror. To give you an idea of how bad this movie is, it was described by one Amazon reviewer as "... so terrible that it makes EVERY MOVIE EVER MADE a five-star movie." Another reviewer states, "If you are looking for a 'so bad it's good' movie, then look no further." Join us for heckling and free snacks! The library closes at 5pm but the doors will be open to moviegoers at 6pm. Registration is not required for this event.
Teen Hangout Night Every Tuesday @ Central Library
Teens! Stop by the auditorium of the Central Library (Steele Memorial) for music, food, wii games, teen program brainstorming, art, and more! Bring your friends, eat, hangout, have fun! Bring your laptops, tablets, ipods or phones to connect to wifi internet. Come and go as you please from 6pm to 8:00pm. No adults allowed without a teen escort except teen librarian, Doris Jean! :)

Family Saturday Movie - Despicable Me 2
Welcome 2014! Central Library will continue the family monthly Saturday at the movies series with a free showing of Despicable Me 2, full of more minion fun... on January 11 at 2:00. Refreshments will be available.
Winter Story Times
Our Winter story time session will begin the week of January 13. Mondays at 10:30 for preschoolers ages 3-5 and Fridays at 10:30 for toddlers, ages 18 months – 3. No registration is required.
Polar Bear Craft
Winter fun with Miss Emma and Miss Cassie on Saturday Jan. 25 at 1:30. Kids ages 5 and up can come and make a cool polar bear craft and enjoy a yummy snack. No registration is required.
Tanglewood Animal Visit & Groundhog Craft
February 1 is Take Your Child to the Library Day, and families can bring their children to Central at 1:00 to see Tanglewood’s winter animal friends...we’ll also do a groundhog craft in honor of Groundhog Day! All ages are welcome.

Tanglewood Animal Visit
Meet some very special animal friends from the Tanglewood Nature Center & Museum. Learn about winter animals and their habits. See you on January 22nd, Wednesday afternoon from 4:30-5:30!

Van Etten
Be Creative Group explores Light & Composition
Join our weekly group every Saturday from 1-3pm for creative, crafty adults and teens! Bring your creative project & work alongside your friends sharing tips, art, and have fun! All ability levels are welcome. Knitters, artists, origami, jewelry making, and more! Twice a month local artist Faye Crance focuses on a special topic. January's topic is: Capturing Light and Elements of Effective Composition in your creations.
Affordable Care Act Help
Stop by Van Etten Library for sign up help or to just get info on the Affordable Care Act and New York State's health marketplace from 11am-2pm on the first Saturday of each month. Appointments necessary. Call AIM: 1-888-962-8244 for an appointment at VE Library, or to find out about other sign up help locations and times.
West Elmira
Story Times
After the holiday break, the staff of West Elmira look forward to story times beginning again the week of January 13th. Pajama Story Time will take place Mondays at 6 PM and Morning Story Time will be Thursdays at 10:30 AM.
Home School Program
The Home School Program will begin a week earlier on Wednesday, January 8th at 10:30 AM. The first topic will be about the water cycle. We are looking forward to three sessions on nano scale science. These will take place on January 22nd and 29th and February 5th at 10:30 AM. These will be presented by a representative of the Science and Discovery Center.
Art Lessons
The January art lessons will be on the 8th and the 15th from 11:30 to 12:30, Although both of these sessions are filled at this time, we do have a waiting list so let us know if you are interested. These sessions are taught by a local artist and are for ages 6-13.
Baking Coach
We are looking forward to having the Baking Coach join us for a fun evening of making chocolate covered cannolis. Please check the calendar of events or call the library for more information.
